Here I am yet again haha
Storm and Nigel decided to breed again, they're both in good health and they're inside where it's nice and warm. I made sure everything had been cleaned properly and everything like that.
Except this time Storm has been a very protective mummy .... I think she laid 5-6 eggs, but she's never been off them long enough to count. Not that I'm complaining because it means she's looking after her babies well, but 2 babies have recently hatched (on the 25th and 27th), the babies have been crying a lot and I'm starting to wonder whether they're being fed properly. She's still incubating her other eggs because I'm pretty sure the first two eggs she laid were fertile and are the ones that have hatched due to the timing. And so I'm a bit worried because I can't check the babies to make sure they're being cared for properly.
Their father also seems to be very exhausted, he seems almost lethargic but he seems to be in great health otherwise, he's just been sleeping a lot. He's a big english budgie and has never been the most active, he normally runs along perches if he wants to go somewhere and is just overall rather lazy. I think that he's just really exhausted because both the chicks and Storm have been very demanding of him and he's had to make lots of trips to the food and back to feed his growing family. He doesn't sleep on the bottom of the cage or anything like most sick budgies do. I'm not too worried about him because I think it's just normal for him in general to be exhausted easily. The main problem is that I'm unsure if he's giving his family enough food because he's just been sleeping so much.
Storm very rarely leaves her nest and I'm unsure if she has 2 or 3 babies right now, she just quacks at me every time I try to look in her nest which is understandable. Is there anything I can look out for without actually seeing the babies? I know it's normal for them to be fed about 6-7 times a day as newborns but they just cry most of the day which is why I'm worried they might not be being fed enough. I have all the supplies to hand feed them if they need it, but I'd just like to know that she's looking after them properly and that I shouldn't take action to help her. Getting the chicks out of the nest to check on them isn't really an option as Storm will probably attack me and may stop feeding them altogether. Any advice?
