Hi
I Have a 5 1/2 week old baby. The mother has started to attack it. Am I safe to take it out and keep it safe in a cage? Thanks

If the baby is eating on his/her own then yes. I have not reared chicks, perhaps skysmum, starlingqueen, Hezz could help on this one.

Can you remove the mother and leave the father to care for the chick?

At five and a half weeks, the chick should be pretty much self-sufficient anyway, but I agree with SQ - remove either chick and Dad, or the hen; leave the chick with the cock to learn how to forage for itself.
It is possible that the hen is looking to start a second clutch; her reason for attacking the chick.
