Hello All Are Ferplast bird cages safe? They have plastic not metal is this okay? I know it is important if metal for a cage to be powder coated but what about the plastic ones? Are they safe? I would like to try and get one today but will wait for answers first.
I can't get hold of a Hagen where I live they do not even deliver here.
Thank you

Ferplast cages are coated with powder paint as are many painted cages. The powder coating is stronger than normal paint ant is therefore safer for budgies. The only thing is the budgie can strip the paint off, particularly a hen, leaving the bare metal. Hagen cages are coated differently but still the coating can be removed but not as easily as powder coated cages. I do have experience of both and would prefer Hagen over Ferplast for long period use.

HI OP Thank you for your help. Is the powder paint poisonous? Or is the problem th bare metal? Could I buy the Ferplast cage to give me time on my next overseas trip to get a Hagen say around 6 months time or so? I just don't want he/she to get sick or poisoned. Also some of the Ferplast cages have width and then arch into a height should I go for one of those or just a medium size width cage? Thank you soooo much

The problem is the bare metal. If the bird is a hen then you may have some issues with them trying to strip paint off the bars, if it's a male then you may not have the issues.
For myself (or my budgies) I prefer flat top cages because you can put things on them for the bird when they're out playing and also they are easier to cover.

The first Vision cage I had was the M01 and I thought it had no coating on the bare metal, but I got the L01 when I had the three buds Joey, Whiskers and Edward. It was Edward that started to liberate whatever the coating was on the second Vision cage I had. I don't think it was powder paint like the Ferplast, but there definitely was a coating. Sorry if I mislead you starlingqueen. I mislead myself these days.

Yes there is a coating on the hagen vision cages that I have too. I only know because Lucy has tried to ping the bars and some came off. I can only see it when I look at it up close.

Ah, so they look like bare metal but they have a coating. That's interesting, wonder what it is.

I have had a Ferplast Piano 6 now for over 5 yrs. My latest hen, Pip, has only just found that she can pick the coating off!!! It was fine before she came! I just put toys over where she has picked, it's only on the roof (at the moment!!)

I found wooden spring pegs a boon for stopping Edward stripping the paint off. She just stripped the pegs instead.
