Hello So I got out baby budgie a cage today as it could not stay in the temp one provided by the vet. The pet shop did not have Ferplast so I ended up buying a cage made be FOP apparently an Italian make similar to Ferplast I have never heard of them before. Anyways the perches are plastic and I will need to replace them ASAP how do I go about making natural branch perches? Which trees are safe? Do I have to do anything to the branches first? We have a lot of Eucalyptus trees nearby would these be safe? Lastly can budgies eat eucalyptus leaves? Thank you 🙂

Eucalypts are great and their leaves/branches can be fed to the budgie. I am not sure about your comment how to make a perch ..... ?? Find some reasonably straight branches of about the right thickness, cut them slightly longer than you need. Vertical bars are much easier to fit perches to - whittle down the ends so that they fit between the bars (you can do this with horizontal bars as well), you can use fancy perch fixings which you can buy, or you can cut the branch just the length needed and screw some flat-headed stainless steel screws into the ends, the heads of the screws sit onto the outside of the bars.

Sorry, I got caught up in the sourcing of the perches ..... to get them ready for your new little friend, give them a good soaking and scrub with some washing up detergent, rinse with a water/vinegar solution .... anything from about quarter vinegar/three quarter water to half/half will be good, and then put them out into the sun to dry. They will then be ready for use.
