This is Dusty when she was well, before her operation. Although I haven't taken a picture of her since, she looks pretty much the same, and is getting on really well with her recovery. I just love this pic, it shows Dusty's naughty character. Dusty by on Flickr The pallets have since been removed and I have a lovely new composter, made by my daughter's OH.

She really is a beauty Shirls. Has she had no more problems with eating since her OP?

She really is a beauty Shirls. Has she had no more problems with eating since her OP? Thank you JB. She seems to have a good appetite and hasn't been eating well, but this is improving every day now. She is putting on about 6 oz. per week and is now 6 lbs 3 oz. Which is the minimum weight for an Orpington hen. She is getting more naughty also by the day and her wattles are reddening up which means she should be coming back into 'lay'. Thank you for asking jellybean.

It's good that she is getting her colour back, and her naughtiness. Sounds like she is definitely on the mend.

How on earth did she get up on to the pallets Shirls? Believe it or not Marianne - she jumps!! She can jump without even a run-up to get that high. She is a little scamp!! She is very light, none of the Buffs could do this. I expect the babies could though until they grow up and get a bit more weighty.

Well I never!
I had no idea that chickens could jump!

They surely can! Remember the chookie that I found? She was doing this free-style jumping in the afternoon, inside the pen I had made for her. I realised that she was looking for somewhere higher up to roost. A few boards popped though the dog crate, high up, had her settled in no time.

You certainly learn something new every day with chickens...and all birds for that matter
