That Mollie has laid her first egg. She laid it yesterday and being as Mollie is my daughter's chook, I gave the egg to my daughter. Boiled egg was on the breakfast menu today and apparently, was delicious! We have been without eggs for so long we have forgotten what they taste like. Beautiful Mollie

Try splitting one egg three ways! Well done, Molly. May this be the first of many in your long and spoilt lifetime. Who is feeling more chuffed? Molly or daughter, hmmm???

I think we are all well chuffed to bits Hezz. She laid her second one today....in the run this time, she wouldn't go in the nest box. Obviously she went in because it's all scuffed up and re-arranged, but again obviously wasn't to her liking. It is very dodgy laying in the run, especially when they were all scratching around and dust bathing. Fortunately there is only one tiny crack in the egg so it will be usable, but not for boiling I don't think. The first egg was laid sometime in the early hours as it was in the coop and that was where she was looking to lay this morning (naughty girl!)

Well done Mollie. My OH went to visit his Cousin in Wales a few years ago and friends of theirs kept chicken and they gave him eggs to bring home, they were the nicest eggs I have ever tasted. So I'll bet your Daughter enjoyed hers.

Sorry, Mollie, I misspelt your name. I must remember Mollie with an i,e, not a y. PS At least I was consistent.

I am very sorry to say Hezz and samwiseg that nobody has taught Mollie the 'egg song'. Perhaps I should play it to her, I can get it on YouTube on my mobile. She struts around clucking when she wants to find a place to lay (still not in the egg/nest box) and then she goes on about her chickeny business afterwards like nothing has happened. She visited the nest box loads of times yesterday but the egg was laid in the run. Other chooks are reddening up, so hopefully soon we will be getting more eggies for breakfast!! Had a Mollie one this morning, it was (small but) scrumptious!!

I wonder, do they ever go looking for the egg. They must know there should be one, not realising some human stole it for their breakfast.

Your question did make me laugh OP!! I don't think they go looking for the egg they just laid, however if it was broken they would eat it and they all tuck in!!! The only other thing is if they go broody then they sit on the egg for days!! This also stops them from laying any more. You can actually buy a box of ....... eggs and put them under a broody hen to hatch out. I forget what the term for these eggs are. I went to a chicken auction once and there were all these boxes of eggs for sale. (Me, in my stupidity thought they were for eating!!) It was written on them what breed they were and you could buy them to take home for your broody hen!! Obviously they were all fertile. Only problem with that is you take the chance that 50% (yes 50%) could be cockerels, and they are not in so much demand as hens.

I bet the eggs for sale were a tad more expensive than Supermarket eggs.
