Good news today, we have TWO squatty hens!!! This means that Hettie is about to lay!! Had another egg from Mollie in the coop last night (probably laid late in the day yesterday). This time it wasn't cracked, despite 6 chickens stomping about getting to their sleeping places last night. Phew!!

Hopefully Mollie has broken the egg-drought. Soon you will be wallowing in eggs .... okay, slight exaggeration.

Well Hezz, with 6 hens, if they all lay and they should do, one every day...... well you can work it out. 'Wallowing' may be a very apt description!!!

Would they really be so obliging to lay one per day or is that one chick one egg per day giving you 6 eggs per day.

I am fairly sure Shirls meant six hens laying an egg apiece each day, so yes, OP, your maths is correct - six eggs a day. More likely five though, as they do have the odd day off ... maybe that's their version of a weekend.

Yes OP up to 42 eggs per week!!!! A hen takes between 24 and 26 hours to produce an egg. So every day when an egg is laid, the next egg will be laid 1 - 2 hrs later the next day. But as Hezz rightly says, they do have the odd day off - how that works out I really don't know. No doubt, very soon, I won't know who laid which egg. I write the egg laying times and who laid in a desk diary. One has to watch out in case a hen gets egg bound, and also for other problems with the eggs. It's a complicated, trying business. What I would like to know, who said keeping chickens was easy???

Well I never thought that keeping chooks was so complicated. So whoever said it was easy has never kept any. That sounds like a government minister for chicken keeping

I just find the whole thing so clever how it works! Look at this...
Apparently there is a chain of them within the chicken like a production line?!
