I am about to build an aviary and I have been told that the roof should allow in sunlight - as birds need sunlight to breed well. But another breeder told me this is just asking for diseases from the wild birds. What do you think?

hi there hobo,i take it you are on about an outside flight ,its, all down to choice,i had one that was fully exposed, and had nothing but trouble with slugs and birds dying on me,i moved the flight and shed, this time covering the the back,2sides,and putting a clear perspex roofon, only leaving the front exposed,no trouble with slugs or birds dying,so i personally would say cover the roof at least,to stop any wild bird poo getting in and contaminating, and try and place in an area not fully exposed to the wind

this is how i did mine .... I really like the look of that set up. Mick has one of my favourite aviaries. It's looks really pleasant for the birds, and really nice just sitting at the end of his garden. A bright happy spot for his bright happy birds.
