Found in the swans at Windsor, too close and tragic if it goes through the whole population, numbers are down as it is this year

That is very worrying news. I hope it's not the begining of another outbreak.

That is very worrying news. I hope it's not the begining of another outbreak. It is another outbreak Colin, but DEFRA haven't yet advised regarding quarantining areas (as far as I know --- will go and check that now). We just have to be vigilant with disinfecting areas and footwear, not feeding wild birds (they still come even if I don't feed them!!!) It goes on! Usual stuff on DEFRA website, link in my previous thread: fence off muddy areas, discourage wild birds, humanely discourage rats, mice etc. (easier said than done I might add!) Restrict movement of birds, disinfect boots etc.

Yes this is very sad. I hope this is not going to an annual occurrence. Is there any chance the last outbreak was unsuccessfully eradicated.

It's only my opinion but I think we are going to get this happening every year now. It's all to do with migratory birds.

It's so sad, we watched the annual swan upping at Cookham last year and they were really concerned then about the drop in numbers. Latest report is that 25 have died and 30 are gravely ill. It's not been confirmed but test's on the 25 are almost sure to reveal Bird Flu. Queen is set to loose entire flock at Windsor

I only hope this horrid flu doesn't hit Abbotsbury. Has anyone been there? Swans as far as the eye can see, it's absolutely stunning and amazing, especially at feeding time. There are literally thousands of birds there. When I visited they were feeding the swans and the seascape was just a mass of swans, much more than in the picture of the guy feeding them here. It was like a white carpet out to sea. www.expedia.com/pictures/dorset/weymouth/abbotsbury-swannery.d553248621532490965/

I too have a feeling that it'll return every year unless they do something really drastic about it what that is I couldn't possibly even contemplate

Last year we visited Dawlish, hadn't been since our girls were small, they still have the black swans there, so beautiful
