I bought Georgy from a breeder at about 4-5 months old. He had his first moult but the bars are still there on his head but more faded, also his nose was initially brown and only went blue over the last week (Sorry Georgy I called you a girl for a fortnight ). Had him for 3 weeks now.
As far as tameness goes, he was never really intimidated by people being by the cage, and only showed caution with hands near him, his limit before running away was about 10-ish cm near his personal space. It's remained that way to today. He seems to be adapting to my voice as he's chattering away to himself noises which are clearly in tone with what I regularly say to him (it's not recognisable yet, but I think he will be a talker). He loves the radio and spotify on my phone too (particularly Disney songs lol). My only concern is he shows little interest in his toys, I don't think he's touched a bell, and is only really interested in the foraging toy because it has food in it which he will occasionally throw around to move the contents inside.
I gave him a week to settle in, talked from a distance and he started responding happily to my voice happily after a few days and I talked to him right by the cage for the rest of the week (Again fine with this, he ate, preened, chirped etc), found his food/water fine (Though I need to provide a dish on the floor as that seems to be the only thing he'll recognise as drinking water). I am trying to adapt him to pellets and veg, but no luck so far.
Week 2 I talked to him in the same way, but now with my hand on the left side of the cage, which he quickly adapted to. I was following a taming guide which said do this on the left, right front top and front door on a weekly basis, then basically the same inside the cage for 5 weeks before hand feeding/associating to a clicker and eventually finger training, but he seems to need a lot less than a week for each these steps. So I basically did the left and right over the week and he now shows little intimidation to this.
Week 3 I did the front of the cage for 2 days, but to be honest he's fine with my hand anywhere outside the cage now, and even within reason inside it so I might as well move onto that. I was concerned about exercise (At the moment it's seed, millet and apple as far as he's concerned, and absolutely nothing else lol) so I tried opening the front door of the cage and he hopped out onto it and ate, chirped etc as he always does. The only thing is he won't turn his back to me so won't go back into the cage unless I leave the room. If he flies (not out of fear, he just likes to do so) he just goes aimlessly around in circles and can't seem to navigate back to his cage well, and getting him back without scaring him is difficult, but we've done our best with that and end it on a positive with millet in an accessible place on his favourite perch, so we've tried making those slight hiccups end on a positive.
It's clear at this point I need to get him tame enough to step up, but am I going too quick? He seems happy out of the cage so it seems a shame to keep him in again.
