No photos, unfortunately, of Loki trying to oust a very large cricket from his perching tree. The cricket had been inside the house for around a week, his body at least as long as my index finger, probably cleaning up some dead insects ... I hope. Anyway he, Mr Cricket, took up overnight residence in the cardboard centre of a toilet paper roll, part of Loki's many and varied things to play/chew on. All I could see of Mr Cricket was one very long feeler sticking out the top, waving around. When Loki flew to his tree, I was sure that Mr Cricket was staying put and Loki would back off. Oh, no. Not on your nelly. Loki pulled and poked and jabbed as well as he could to remove Mr Cricket, even chewing on the roll to get further down, but Mr Cricket was just as stubborn. Neither were going to give up without a fight, and I figured Mr Cricket might just come off the worse, so intervened. Loki had grabbed hold of this feeler to try to pull him out, I did the same, trying not to break it - he was hanging on for dear life inside that little toilet roll - how can one little insect have such powers?? So eventually I took the roll outside, and "encouraged" Mr Cricket to find his way out the other end with a spare perch. It did take some encouraging, but we got there in the end, hopefully he has gone off to do the cricket-y things that crickets do, but outside this time.

Would Loki eat the cricket if he got hold of it or are they herbivores? Well done for rescuing the cricket.

Was Loki a bit miffed he didn't get his cricket treat after all his efforts. Well done for caring about a little creature, noisy as they can be.

I'm sooo glad you intervened Hezz! I was wondering for a while what was going to be the end result! A lovely Loki story... perhaps it was best that the pictures wern't there as my mind was as usual conjuring up the biggest cricket you've ever seen (and you know how us women say insects as much bigger than they actually are)

Omg Stevex! Lol!!!
I will have nightmares tonight with that enlarged vision of a crickets head!!!!
Glad Mr Cricket was saved and has gone back outside to find Mrs Cricket and the many cricket kids.
Poor Loki, I bet his face was a picture when he clapped eyes on an intruder in HIS toilet roll.

I'm not sure what Loki would eventually done have with the poor cricket, whether he would have eaten it, or part of, (they are omnivores) given up, or pulled bits off but I had a feeling that it wouldn't be pretty, and Mr Cricket really wasn't doing anyone any harm.
