Hi All
Slowly slowly Scooby is becoming tamer and coming out the cage but he does not like to go on my arm, hand or shoulder, rather he will fly onto my head and when I put my hand up to take him off he squawks angrily but more annoying than this is that when I am wearing my glasses he flys onto my face and uses my glasses as his landing perch then he proceeds to but me on the nose or eyebrows really hard.
I want Scooby to cone out the cage but I don’t want him doing either of the above. I would if possible like him to be on my shoulder or hand but he just won’t have it.
How can I stop this behaviour?
Thank you so much 🙂

Whiskers has done that sort of thing since I can remember. He has always landed on my head and worked his way down so the he has one foot on my nose and the other foot on the arm of my glasses. From there he will preen my eyebrows, nibble round the rim of my glasses and look through the lense into my eye. If I don't want him like that I put my hand up on the bridge of my nose so that he stands on my hand. I have to swiftly move my hand so he is out of reach of my nose, otherwise he will bite it. How to stop it I have no idea as I haven't wanted to. I have learned his little tricks and deal with that.

Whiskers sounds very sweet but when Scooby bites it hurts he is quite aggressive he bites all the time anyway I am being very patient he had a hard start to life but I feel like he literally rules the roost!

Ah! that is quite different then. It does sound like a behavioural problem. If he has been mistreated in the past then that is probably all he has known and expects more of the same.
For the landing on your head or face are you aware of when it is about to happen? If so, have you tried moving your head, or turning it slightly. This does work with Whiskers if I don't want him on my head. It seems to upset his navigation.

I just quickly put my hand up and scoop them off and bring them down to where you want them to be, a firm no as they land should get the message across. As for the biting it should pass he is just cross with you as you moved him from where he wanted to be.

Hi thank you for helping I do move out the way or put my hand by my face or above my head to stop him landing and boy does he get angry! I think he definitely has a fear of hands but if I feed him treats from my hand he is fine but any sudden moves can make him nervous. I like to think that with time he will learn not to fly into my head or face but even with a firm no he will do it again and again 😢

I understand the fear of hands. I have four out of my five that fear hands. Only two of these will feed from the back of my hand. I firmly believe it is due to mishandling prior to them coming to me. I don't mean in a cruel way, just not in a positive way. Yes I can understand your boy getting angry, I see that with Whiskers, who is the friendliest of all. Do something he doesn't want and he will bite. Well done with your patience, I think that is the only thing that may win the day.

Will he step on to a perch that you are holding? My Dexter will rarely come on to my hard but will always step on to a perch and I can get him off my head that way.
