Dear Friends: I have a female budgie who developed bumblefoot. My male budgie also has it. But today I will talk about my little girl:
She has bumblefoot. I can see a wound in the center of his foot and it has a crust (I don't know if that is what's called necrotic tissue). It's dark brown. It's been getting smaller but is swelling in the surroundings of the wound.
And one of his toe instead of lying backwards it's lying forward. I have tried moving her foot but it hurts her She is receiving a treatment by desinfecting with chlorhexidine and iodopovidone. And also using one drop directly on the toe of ciprofloxacin. I’m also giving her meloxicam as she is raising her feet continuously.
On December her avian vet move abroad to keep studying and since then I have been visiting different exotic vets or avian one worse than other.
First they receive a treatment with furicidin which didn’t work at all.
Another vet took a sample and found staphylococcus on her feet.
So I have been cleaning her foot with clorhexidine and applying enroflaxicine. Other vet told me to continue with the same treatment. I was applying an antibiotic cream or honey depends of what the different vet told me and recently I got a new vet and this is the treatment she is receiving: disinfecting with clorhexidine and iodopovidone and then applying one drop directly on his feet of ciprofloxacine . I’m also giving her Meloxicam for 10 days ( I just started yesterday). When I mentioned the vet why is she with the foot in a forward position she said that is cause of the pododermatitis bumblefoot that has already advanced. How come has it advanced if I never stopped with the treatment?
I don't know what else to do. The healing process is too slow. On February all her toes were perfect I don't know when did her foot start heading forward and l wonder if this is a permanent damage or will she recover fully after healing fully of her bumblefoot.
The vet told me not to get X-ray yet She told me to let her finish the treatment. I. Sad and hopeless please help me. The vet l trust has moved abroad and the other vet are new for me.
This vet told me that her bumblefoot is on grade 5 and based on what I have read she should need an x Ray to see if the bone has been infected or not.
She is my beautiful baby and I have done everything I can. I getting deeply sad because of this.
My other budgie who is a little male bird, is on recovery too unfortunately I had an accident and stepped on him. He has recovery pretty good. He also have bumblefoot and a wound on his feet that doesn’t allow him to close his toe. One vet took a sample bigger than the wound he got while playing on the cage and the procedure made to take the sample left a bigger wound which compromised the flexor tendon. My male budgie is better now eating singing and sort of flying .
I will upload a picture of my female budgie where you can see that her toe is heading forward . And please do help me. I don’t feel satisfy with treatments my little has received. I feel completely frustrated and as a total failure.
Help me as she is my life and she seems no te be recovering fully and getting worse. Her toe wasn’t like that on February.
I don’t know what else to do seriously. There are so many incompetent professionals . I’m disheartened
