This is Castor. He is two years old and I just noticed that this orange spot has appeared on his nose under the right over the past few days. I have three budgies, all male, in total: Kylo (three years old), Castor (two years old), and Apollo (one year one). I also have a cockatiel who is 10 months old. Kylo and Castor have been beating each other up lately & then living in peace. I have had to separate them before. They were fine until I brought Apollo home. Do you think that this spot is a scab? Do you think it could have been from being bitten? Please help? :-(

Hi and welcome birdwitch At first when I looked on my phone I thought it was scaley face but sadly I am not so sure that's what it is Sometimes male birds have cere changes because of an imbalance of testosterone so may be something cancerous or have a tumour Remember we are not avian vets, he could have an infection but the only way for this to be determined properly is by taking him (if possible) to an avian vet. Do you live in the UK? As there is a list of avian spcialists in the country on the forum hereKeeping everything crossed for you and Castor x

As Sam says, it's impossible to know for sure what it is.
It definitely could be a scab from catching his cere on something or perhaps a scrap with another bird. The photo is unclear though.

I can't blow up the photo, so can't really see what is happening there. To me, it looked as though he had a build up of nasal discharge (otherwise known as snot). Budgie pus is much thicker, more cheesy than ours, so might not be recognised as such. We would need a clearer, and closer photo of the nostril to be sure.

This is the best that I can get of him, he moves his head way too fast. But I have dealt with scaly face & leg mites in the past and this doesn't look anything like it personally. His beak and all of his plumage is healthy. He does have a vet appointment on Monday at 2:15.

Looking at it up close my guess is either food or nasal discharge.

Have you tried wiping it with a damp say cotton bud, or a make up pad? May save you the cost of a vet visit.

I would definitely try and wipe it off first.

Either nasal discharge or possibly a scab. The inside of the nostril looks quite pink, it is possible that he has scratched the inside of the nostril with a claw and caused a little scab. If there is something in the air that is causing his nostrils to itch, he will scratch, just the same as we will. Add some humidity to the air might help, as would putting him into a steaming bathroom for 15-20 minutes. If discharge this will help loosen it; if he has a respiratory infection, the steam will help with that as well.

I'm afraid that this post was made several years ago and the poster did not update us. If you would like to start a new post with a photo in the health section, we can take a look for you :-) Hello did you ever find out what this was? My budge has the same exact thing on his cere in the same spot and everything
