Hi all, Do my budgies look sick to you? I'm concerned about Joey (male budgie). He looks a bit off to me. I'm mainly worried about his cere / beak area - is it just a bit crusty / dry, or does that look like scaly mites? Thank you.

I’m not seeing the photos terribly well, but there does seem to be something on the beak/cere on the first photo. A clearer photo and closer up should help. If one does have scaly mites, you will treat both, anyway. Ivermectin 0.1% is what you will need.

As Hezz has advised you will need to treat them both even if one has it as it is highly contagious. It does look like your cock bird has a dry cere - has he been doing a lot of scratching or head rubbing? Would advise to ivermectin them anyway to be sure

To me it just looks dry. But it wont harm them to give a dose of ivermectin (0.1%) to the back of the neck.

They may feel better if he had some nice natural perches. The plastic ones are no good for their little feet.

I’ve noticed on my male budgie a dry crusty patch right by his beak, I’m not sure if it’s mites or not. He seems to be sleeping a lot more too. Anyone have any ideas?

We'd need photos to determine if it's scalyface. Sleeping a lot is generally a worrying thing. Really you should take him to an avian vet.

It is also best if you start your own thread for any concerns you might have. This thread is over 12 months old.

I would take both of them to an avian vet. Better to be safe than sorry
