I recently purchased a budgie around 3 weeks ago. The bird I got was from a Petco and was houses with other birds and was not hand raised. The bird is also not a adolescent he has a faded blue cere with no stripe on his forehead and has a slight brown outline around his eyes. Sadly I didn’t do as much research as I should have before purchasing the budgie. He seems to be comfortable around me after a couple weeks of working with him he became comfortable jumping on my finger for some millet seed which I had to introduce to him because he avoided it like the plague at first. This being a parent raised older budgie do I have a chance of taking him well? Also when I do give him a treat he will run away from my finger if I move it near him I say run away because he won’t fly just scoot or climb away. Should I continue to offer millet seed and coax him to come over to me and say step up when he does hop up on my finger?
figured I’d add some picture of the little guy his name is Gismo
p.s.
I also would like to add it seems the bird has some trust or preference towards me I’ve been off on workermans comp and have basically been able to give this bird full attention. We where trying to see if he would jump on my girlfriends finger and he wouldn’t until I came in view and started rubbing my finger on the cage and when I started to do that he jumped right on on her finger. And also if I am the only one around and the rooms quiet if I go over and talk to him he’ll fluff up and stand on one leg.
