Hey! we recently got 3 parakeets, 2 boys and 1 girl, we think, I sent pics of their ceres in the Gender forum. Anyway, The cage they where in was way to small for all 3, and we didn't want them to breed. We moved the girl into an old hamster cage that is 15x15x18. Is this big enough for her? She and another male where pacing their cage walls toward each other right after she was moved, will this clear up?

I do hope someone comes along and helps you soon, because as I said I am not an expert....... But I am worried about your parakeets. They need sexing property because I think you have the sexes wrong, and the fact that you have put a parakeet into a hamster cage .....well that cannot be right. I personally think you have two hens and a male....but like I say you need someone more expert to help you.......

You really need a proper budgie cage and house all three of them together as that is how they have been up until now, in my opinion that is. The bars should be no more than 1cm apart any larger the birdy can escape/or even/ get head stuck between bars. Hoping that the hamster cage is just a temporary measure for now.

We actually moved her back in, and I did research and it sounded like it was okay to put her in an empty tall one, but we think they have bonded, and should be in the same cage. And I agree with you, it does look like there is 2 hens and 1 cock.

Have you put all three back into the small cage? Also you mentioned a tall cage? These are not good for budgies, they need a long one so they can fly from perch to perch....

I meant the hamster cage was about as tall as their small cage, and yes, they are back in together. We think the girl and boy are bonded, and maybe want to mate, not sure.

As Shirls suggested you will need to get a bigger cage to keep your parakeets healthy and happy.

Get the biggest cage that your pocket and space can cope with. Many cages are far too small for even budgies, small as they are, and so much depends on how much out-of-cage time they have. A cage can never be too big.

Yes, thats what I thought, would a 18x18x39 cage work? If that measurement is in inches, yes that would be good. Otherwise no.
