Hi, First of all I would like to thank everyone here for the great amount of information they provide, am new here but I find this forum very useful Since two days I noticed that little Oliver is making some breathing noise, specially late in the evening, I managed to catch it on video He is super active and spent the day flying around the room and playing and he ate a lot, I did some research and the first guess was iodine deficiency www.petmd.com/bird/conditions/digestive/c_bd_Iodine_Deficiencyhe has an iodine stone in his cage, but he is not a big fan of it, I wanted to take him to the vet today before taking the video, but he didn't make any noise today until late evening and he looked completely healthy any ideas what could this be ? it happens for a couple of minutes and then it stops, can it be air sac mites ? streamable.com/pxtb0streamable.com/pxtb0Thanks, Jo

It is more as though he has something caught in his mouth or throat, to me. It is not a squeak when he breathes which is what you would get with iodine deficiency and air sac mites. With these you would hear a squeak with every breath; that is not happening here. Birds do have a little slit at the back of their mouth/throat which can get food caught in it. Maybe he is eating too quickly and getting something stuck. The fact that he is opening his beak with each noise says to me that it is something irritating higher up.

Thanks for the reply,
I am keeping an eye on him, first I thought the issue went away, but I heard again in the night and early morning before taking off the cover, it is happening more often today, and even in the morning before having his breakfast, but it only happens when he is relaxed, not when he is eating or playing or flying around

That is a strange one. My first thought also was that he was trying to clear something from his crop. Try adding a few drops of Apple Cider Vinegar to his water, this helps to clean the crop and break down anything that could be irritating it.
Unfiltered ACV with "the mother" in it is the most beneficial.

Thanks ! I just added unfiltered ACV to the water, I added 4 drops to 100ml (I read that in another thread), is that enough or do you have a different suggestion for the dose

Thanks ! I just added unfiltered ACV to the water, I added 4 drops to 100ml (I read that in another thread), is that enough or do you have a different suggestion for the dose That dosage is fine. If the noise is persisting, or getting worse, I really would consider getting an avian vet's opinion. They at least would be able to do a crop wash and check him out for anything else they might think it could be; it might be one of the causes that you mentioned but not presenting in the standard way. It may be something we haven't even considered ...
