Hi everyone, Ok i got an apple vinegar bottle (it's the only kind of apple vinegar in my country) and after a while I found black residues in the bottle (if anyone can tell me what is that or have anyone seen something like that?) (and it dissolved after i poured it in something else to check it out) so i decided to switch to white vinegar until I can find another kind of apple vinegar is white vinegar safe for budgie? I regularly put some of apple vinegar in water for their health thank you and waiting for your reply

I wouldn't use it; I'd stick to using the ACV. Ordinary white vinegar could contain all sorts of chemicals and would taste foul. It has a harsh, sour taste; ACV has a much milder taste. If you aren't happy with the ACV you have, it is not going to harm the birds to not have any until you can get some decent ACV.

Are you sure the residue is black? ACV with 'the mother' leaves a golden to dark brown residue on the bottom of the bottle when it sits a while. That's the condensed 'mother' which is easily dissolved by shaking the bottle. There are many opinions as to why ACV is so effective for humans as well as budgies, but most folks (though not all) agree 'the mother' has something to do with it.
But if what you're seeing is indeed black, you'd probably be better off not using it.

Hope this explains it helenmat:- Organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar(like Bragg's) also contains "mother," strands of proteins, enzymes and friendly bacteria that give the product a murky appearance. Some people believe that the "mother" is responsible for most of the health benefits, although there are currently no studies to support this.15 Mar 2018

Thanks everyone for your replies
OK,
(Hezz) "I wouldn't use it; I'd stick to using the ACV." well i'm currently preparing a natural one (i hope to would turn good) and i understand your POV but what if i need to put vinegar white vinegar harms would be more than it's benefits?
(yellowfacedviolet) "Are you sure the residue is black?" yes i'm sure this vinegar was crystal clear when i got it and even it was from the same trademark i got it from last time, it was lighter in color and made me suspicious it is fake apple vinegar i decided to use it for the mean time until i can find another option then that black residue appeared
(helenmat) & (jellybean) i heard about that "mother" thing when it's an organic vinegar recently(one of the reasons that made me more suspicious about the vinegar) it's like a natural product that produced in the process of making the vinegar some people think it's useful, some remove it as Impurities in the vinegar and as (Jellybean) said nothing support either side

What do you mean by mother, I've never heard of this before? jellybean beat me to the punch and explained it very well. If ACV has 'the mother' it is clearly stated on the label, as on this bottle of Bragg's:

If the vinegar you bought was "crystal clear", I would be very suspicious that it isn't ACV. I'm curious as to why you feel you would need to add anything, until the one you are making is mature? It obviously is up to you but I honestly think ordinary vinegar is far too harsh. I did read somewhere (sorry, don't have a link, and only someone's opinion) that stated "ACV is for ingesting; white vinegar is for cleaning."

(Hezz) "If the vinegar you bought was "crystal clear"" yes i didn't know that what a real ACV look like at first so i thought "it's look like that? ok"
and for why i want to keep on putting vinegar well the water isn't very good in my country so i want to keep on putting vinegar to avoid further problems
and i understand about that statement "ACV is for ingesting; white vinegar is for cleaning." i think i did read it before too

I suppose its a bit like when baker's use a batch of starter culture when making their bread - they keep feeding it but it is the original one from the first time they made it.
Can even be years old!
