Arthur Arthur & Harold Arthur Arthur was one of three brothers who I rescued in August 2015 - and I use the word rescue rather than rehome - as the house he was in was not fit for a flea to live in. I have never been in such a terrible place in my life. Arthur and his brothers had hatched in February 2017 so he had done his time in the hellhole, his owner was paid, and he came home with me along with Stanley and Harold. Out of the three brothers, I always thought of Arthur as being middle one; Harold was interested in the ladies and I saw him as the eldest. Stanley is very laid back so I thought he was the youngest; he and Arthur had a very strong bond, they never deviated from each other, followed each other around, fed each other, preened each other, played together. They would sit with Harold at times and it was lovely seeing all the three boys together chirping away. Oddly, Harold and Stanley's ceres have both turned brown, whereas Arthur's stayed bright blue; so I had no inkling that he was ill or that we'd all be losing him so suddenly. On Thursday, 1st August, I had come home - Arthur was on the floor of the aviary breathing hard. He had no energy as I picked him up, I am not sure what had happened I can only think a stroke had occurred. Not long after being brought inside he passed. He was always so fit and healthy and he was still relatively young. Arthur never did pair up with a hen, he tried once with Mabel but was rebuffed - Stanley was his soul mate. He had wonderful colourings, the brightest yellow and a neon green. Gorgeous. He was such a handsome chap. Arthur - I hope you are flying high with the others that have passed. I do not know what happened or how long you'd been on the floor for but i hope you did not suffer too much. Stanley is doing okay, Harold is looking after him. Sleep tight sweet one, I love you xx

He really was a handsome boy. I’m so sorry. You don’t want them to suffer but it’s hard to lose them so unexpectedly too.
Fly high gorgeous xxx

Thank you all. Just realised I've typed the dates wrong - he hatched in Aug 2015 and I got him in February 2017. So he was 4 yrs old and had been living with me for 2.5 yrs. I know buds in aviaries seem to have shorter life spans but I feel 4 yrs was too soon. Before I buried him I checked him over and he did seem to have a little lump near where his heart would be.

I am so sad to read this clt80. Arthur was such a handsome little chap. Console yourself that he had such a wonderful time with you after his sorry beginnings. Fly high beautiful boy. You do such a wonderful job rehoming and rescuing these little birds clt80. Take my hat off to you.

Squawk was 4 as well. Born around November 2014. That’s what hurt me the most when he died as he should have been in the prime of his life at 4. Also he’d been unwell since a few months old. Life is just so cruel sometimes.

Arthur was very handsome. I can imagine him really standing out in the aviary with those colours. He's probably already standing out over at Rainbow Bridge, with a gaggle of new friends, maybe with even a lady among them. Fly high Arthur.
