Sorry in advance if this post offends anyone, especially new members, that is not my intention.
But why, when members register on the forum, do they frequently omit details from their profile.
I don't wish to know anyone's personal details, but just to know if you are Male/Female, and where in the world you live would be helpful.
It would be a lot easier for us to help with suggestions for food, seed, or any websites for toys, medicines, vets, etc.

Good question. I do not know the answer.

I think some people choose not to give too much information out. I certainly noticed a change in attitude to me when I left out the M/F bit from certain (short term) members. Knowing the country where someone is living is certainly very helpful.

I totally agree. It is frustrating that when a new member asks a question, the first thing you must ask is where they are from. I don't care about M/F but location is important for buying supplies and meds etc.

Indeed helenmat Medicines are all called different things all around the world and sometimes not even available. Knowing the climate can be useful too.

I am in agreement, are we able to have a compulsory Country field on part of your profile when you join? Then if others want to put what part of the Country they are in then it's up to them? Or is that a bit too big brother?
We can explain why in the section underneath just to say out of respect so should you need to medicate your bird we can offer advice about medication pertaining to your country, and it will not be used for any other purpose.

Can't really make it compulsory samwiseg it'll put people off joining. I did wonder that's why I said is it too big brother-ish Or... could we just update that field to explain that's why we ask your location?

I don't think you can do that Sam, I only have the option to add new fields, not amend current ones.

Even if people just put a country that would help. Say UK or USA. I don't see why it would put someone off.

I'm afraid so. It hasn't happened for a while, but maybe I noticed it at the time because I had recently taken it off, so the difference was fresh. I think people will just put in silly answers if that sort of thing is made a compulsory field. Yes, it is annoying, but you really can't blame people for being careful.
