we just “rescued” a male around a year old budgie, I said rescued because he has been lonely for the past maybe 6-7 months after his buddy died, and the people (relatives) always wanted to get him another buddy but they have been having health issues (surgeries) and they moved homes so he has been neglected in a room alone for months and I’ve been trying to bring him into our flock but I kept failing because they didn’t want to let him go but finally they agreed and I brought him home with me tonight my question is, since I know his history since he was a baby, does he still need to be quarantined? Or can i put him in the same room as my birds? Of course I won’t let him out of his cage till he is more acquainted, but should I keep him in the other room or not ? your help would be greatly appreciated

Yes, he does still need to be quarantined. Any sort of move, change of environment etc can be very stressful for any bird and any stress like this can compromise their immune system, allowing latent/dormant health issues to become apparent. Many birds can be carriers of certain diseases and only under duress do these organisms get to make their presence known. If the bird has been neglected it is possible that his health has been undermined, so definitely a separate room away from your others. Good upon you for persisting and congratulations on bringing him home.

Sadly he is really thin and a bit scared I put a millet spray and some freshly grated vegetables with some seeds, but he didn’t go near them yet Hopefully he will start eating better soon, any advice would be appreciated

I see you covered the cage. I'd put a radio on for him (not too loud) and let him settle for a while.

I'm sure once he gets used to his new surroundings he will eat. He's a beauty. Enjoy your new addition 😀

lemonora, do you know how old he is? If he is only a youngster, he probably still has some filling out to do. Don't worry about being able to feel his keel bone, you are supposed to be able to feel it. (If you can't, then the bird is too fat!) He looks like a violet (or mauve?) opaline. Not unlike my Spyro, except that he is too fat.
