So given how Sam has become a part of our flock (my husband and I) and she is very feisty and outgoing in her personality, what would be the chances of introducing a new budgie? Ideally a male but it is not the easiest to tell when they are still young. I really don't think Sam would take kindly to a female with her being completely adjusted to us. Also would her adaption with us suffer? Just, as I say, thinking out loud here...

I'm afraid you never really know how a budgie will react to a new friend, until it happens!

Exactly as Marianne has said - no guarantees with any two budgies, but they are generally an accommodating bunch and it is not that often that things don't work out. If the worst case scenario is that they can't be housed together, ever, then do you have the space/are you willing to have two cages for them? While hens can be territorial, the most often cause of budgie fights is lack of space in the caged environment.

You got the budgie bug BloomCountyLover? Only thing I would say to this is that the relationship of Sam to you may change (and I say may) if another budgie is brought in. With hen birds they can get rather posessive of you but can also turn back to budgie if another bird is introuduced and spend less time with you. Who knows really, you can use this to your advantage when getting another bird for example: you can have Sam out with you and eating millet which will train your newbie in the ways of behaving around you. I hope that helps!

Our relationship changing is what worries me. Sam is so bonded to us that I don't think I could live with that changing in any way. If she were exhibiting signs of lonliness I would consider it but she is not. Not at all...lol. I would say she considers herself to be a "human" but I think in actuality she thinks of us as big, loud, ugly, flightless budgies. Budgies that must be put in their place when on rare occasions we "forget" who really rules the roost...lol. 1 budgie is enough, at least for now.
