I have a female budgie named Minty. She lives a fairly happy life with constant food and water, a variety of perches, and a nesting box. She ha lately been prefering to stand on one foot, and when she does she sways around like she is losing balance. Is this normal behaviour and should I stop worrying?
For further context, A few changes have happened recently that might have affected her.
For one, she has had these same wooden rods that are all the same size and shape. I read that a budgie needs different perches to help from foot cramping and such, so i went outside and got a few branches of different sizes. I put them in her cage (along with a few of the old ones) and it may be that they are hurting her feet? She always sits in the same spot on one of them and she seems sick, though she doesn't have very many symptoms.
She also recently laid her first ever egg. She is over a year old and this is the first egg she has ever laid. There is no male, so obviously it was infertile. She paid no attention to it, and did not seem to care in the slightest when I took it out to examine it. (this is not very important but I might as well add it.) anyways, my dad sais perhaps she is recovering from laying her first egg. It was fairly large so that might be it, but im not sure how that would affect her foot.
My dad does not want to bring her to a vet because they are expensive and we don't live near one. He says we should only take her if it is a serious emergency or whatever. I just want to make sure her behaviour is normal, so that we don't waste money on a vet trip. But at the same time if she is unwell I want to get her the care she needs ASAP.
Thanks to any responses. I will try to update frequently so questions are fine if further context is needed.
Again thank you for reading and please help me out! My baby bird means the world to me and her being ill without me knowing would make me feel extremely guilty.
Please help!
