Sideeffect of medication? My poor pippi.Dose any1 know?

My bird that we found outside (sweden 8 years ago) got rly attacked by birds so we called it Pippi (meaning "birdy") . We not knowing gender or nothing, i wasn't a bird person back then.
she was in very bad shape and is a bit traumatised still. also me screaming (shut up in the morning) i know i was a horrible imature man. Now 8 yares later, she never could fly property she flapped like a colibri.  has been diagnosed with overweight about 2 years ago, many times while flying she was using a lot of power and always falling (i guess age and that she likes food a lot). So we took her to an avian vet. she was overweight. Now 2 years after we started noticing her being very tired and not alert. We took her to same vet, her bones was "demineralized" she had to much or too little hormones (dono actually) the thing is now she will produce less and mineralize her bones again, also she has arthritis. so we got metacam 0.004mg (its the strong 1 some get the 1 u need to give about 0.008mg) its a hassle, my gf is on vication 3 weeks in argentina visiting a part of her family and i need to give it to her morning and night.

Allso im working full time and im a bit overworked, i hear her heart beating so fast when i take her outside her cage shi h8ts the medicine. Anyway she gets very intence eyes after about 30min. A bit smaller eyes and a lot mor energetic. Personally i dont think she ever has been completly "normal" she had 1 small pupill for a long time (after we found her), but she is a fighter ,she can be between 9 and who knows yares old.

Pippi is her name and she loves music and can communicate what types of food she wants and where. Im getting paranoid that she isnt drinking, i can never cah her drinking but there is seeds in the whater and she seems fine. Allso i'v marked the bottle with a pencil so i can se the water deminish. But the qustion was if this might be a sideeffect of the metacam. she has another apointment with the vet in 5 days. But i love her over all and she cant be ensured (found outside and never fully recoverd), so it cost like crazy. all i want is for her to have a good life. She is happy right now singing to the music in the background. ok much text i know.

Edit: Allso i can hear her heart or breth, shes been like that for a very long time (sevral yares). from about 2m away. she likes seeds and all sort of other benine foods, but i/we tend to give her whatever she wants, but first we check that it is something healthy like sweetpotatos and so on..

allso i bought i light that is UVB/UVA but she h8 that 1 to how do i make her like it, she has cover if she wants but she dont like me covering the cage with asnything!

Okay ... it sounds as though this is your main question? Since your little bird is currently in the care of a vet, I would be asking the vet this question. It is possibly a common side-effect of the drug, although it is not one that I know of or have experienced and I have had several birds on Metacam at different times over the years. Increased heart rate is to be expected as well, as she will be scared of what you are going to do to her, particularly if she is not used to being held.

Noisy breathing is very common in birds who are over-weight. I wouldn't be feeding her whatever she wants, particularly if this includes human snack foods, especially salty foods. Make sure that her seed mix doesn't contain lots of oil seeds or lots of oats - these will definitely prevent her from losing any weight. Didn't the vet give you some suggestions on what to feed to get some weight off her?

As for her not liking the lamp, I'm not sure there is anything you can do to make her like it. If you have a sunny spot where you can sit out with her in the cage (don't ever leave her on her own) the sunshine will do her a ton more good than any lamp you could buy.

Living in sweden and its to cold right now. otherwise i wuld. the vet mainly wanted me to give her whatever cuz she had lost sevral grams and was actually thin then. but she has a mass inside her (benine) it makes the lungs or idk whatever fat birds have that makes them sound. she was on a diet be4, and i never alow chips or something like that snaks are carrots and sweetpotatos and sometime white toasted bred. I give her everything she wants that i know wont affect her helth in a negative way. how do you tell that your bird drinks? i try too look in the perefy but never cach her...
She is alot better now then 1 week ago. she has even gained some gram or maby 3!

the vet dident tell me how to give her the medicine she only gave me 2 seringes and a little bottle. she medicated her 4 me and not infront of me so i dont know how ppl dose it. i puut her on the sofa then cover her with my hand and try when she opens her mouth. it all takes max 1 minute.

Never thougt i culd love something like ilove her, well i love my GF, but pippi is like my little daugther... i love her so and now when she is little sick i feal angry at my self for not beaing a better dad in the beginning...

Yesterday be4 we went to bet i hear that her breath squiks a bit every 2 minuts or eveo more often, i put on heat and some humidifier. today i hear she still had that squik, so i started cleaning the hole apartment, im a bit shortsighted so sometimes i miss stuff. this time i cleened thurow everywhere. Also i boiled upp water and spread the watervapor around her froma distance. the squiking nois is now gone. she is eating or destroying sweetpotato as we speek!

I cant beleeve how much i love my little pippi<3. i dident go to work today, yesterdaynight i felt so bad having to leave her so i called in sick today just so i culd be with her. soon im of to the shop to buy her some more toys and candyish things i can give her after the medicine so she maby starts liking it!

I reed man advices here its a very good community!

Do some1 have another tip i can do? like whatever i just want her quallity of life to be as good as possible!

Humidity can certainly help open up her airways so if you can put her and her cage into the bathroom and turn the shower on full hot. Get the bathroom hot and steamy and let her stay there for a good 10-15 minutes. You can do this several times a day if you notice any improvement.

I'm glad I misread your words regarding giving her snacks. Sorry about that. Something that might also help her are probiotics, avian, or human if you can't get avian. Also adding a little apple cider vinegar to her drinking water can help keep the whole digestive system healthy as well - just a couple of drops in 100mls of water. How to tell if she drinks - that's a hard one. I rarely see my own hen drink.

Does she have an iodine block to nibble on? An iodine deficiency can sometimes cause a squeak.

She have the "shell part" of the squid, i try giving her uvb/uva but she seems to h8 it, or gets scared and totally passive. She never liked "direct sunlight". i have a very poorly design on my cage so i cant hang her in the shower what i can do is to put it in the same room. it will seem upp pritty well. i live in a 1 bedroom appartment and my GF has been depressed for 1 yare allso she had dependency issues that i still have we decided that becuz i culd mantain a job and prisson my self within the dependency i culd help her get of it, now it was supposed to be my turn (we want to have children and "be grownupps") i feel so alown and left to my self.. all i want is to get cleen have a happy bird (not that shes ever been unhappe the last 7 yares) took me 1 yare to understand how smart and lovly birds are, i had a tough uppbringin with a lot of vilence and pain, my parrents was addicts used needles and me and my brother went from fostercare to "fosterprisson". long storry short, not havuing animals around makes u not think of them as PERSONS. i know im getting of topic but then again i dont feel so good righr now haveing to pull even more weight while my gf is cleen happy and in southamerica payed byh her father with their "richkidsmoney".

Pippi sounds "squik" 5 times this day what iv heard while breathing today she is eating, i went to the store bought vitaminfoods and 2 toys that she havent played with at all... never the less i think her cage is to clutterd, i made a little cardbor construction with roof snd shelter with soft botom for her she only uses it as extra place from where to eat and she leens apon it at night!! but i dont want to "change" the cage to much now when she isent at her "top" she has still 2 more homonal treatments 3x,every,3weeks. after that her bones will recover from the "demineralization". when she stoped flying i shuld have invested more in a bigger cage.. i feeel so bad, i cant beleeve how stupid iv been in my life. im 32 and only the last yare did ihave a plan for the future... whatever happens i know that i have made pippis life a lot better then death 8 yares ago mater what! tho i regret a lot. she is my little baby right now. and it hurts to se her struggle. but she is getting there i hope. only 2 more treatments and if she gets better its all worth it!!
If not, i have defenetly given her the best cae any1 can give her, thank god i have a good job and money for 1 other adult and a bird + dependency issues and everything that follows + the extremly expensive care we have in sweden if ur bird isent insured. it cost more then if i wuld have the same problems by 1000 times...

Edit, iv tryed applecider but she dosent seem to like the water (or i get parranoid that she dosent therefor i get scared she will die of thirst). i make fumebaths with boiled water and applecider vinneger so the fumes interact with her that helped lot i think. also humidifying the room sevralt times a day. it is winter here now so with all the heating the air gets very dehumidified (or whatever it called). So i put wet towls on the "calefactiones" element in swidish dono the name right now. but that makes the town give of vapor over time. Am i worring to much?

Allsow now when i tryed giving her metacam, she is more used to the procedure but this time it all got on the outside of the beek. so i tilted herso that it might go in. after putting her back in the cage i see that there is a little bit of metacam on my finger, maby she brushed away it against the finer. i dont want her to have pain, what if she dident get anough i cant know how much she got, is it harmull to give a little bit more like 00.1ml? out of 0.004ml just to be safe? i am w8ing right now to se if the medicine gives effect.  (i'v lernd the signs of her bihaver getting more "intence"). i take any advice so if u got more just bring them, im to pippis disposel 100%!!!

Edit: she is grooming her self right now ate a bit of cucumber, alsow more active now, so i think she maby got half a dose.. she is so cute....

The question is now do i have to stay awake and monitor pippi so that i can se if she is in pain, iv heard read that budgies open their mouth like we do when we yawn when thay are in pain? is this correct? is there other good sighns?

Edit2: I saw a very long claw so i took my special zizors i never used befor and tryed to trim 1 claw that was specially long, she said "PIIIP" and dident like it i hope i dident hurt her, in lighr i can se that i prolly shuldent have clipped that much maby, no blood or anything only that i can se a pink microscopic dot in the middle of the claw? is this dangerus or harmfull in any way she just ate food and is acting "normal".

I tryed the shower thing. she gets so scared of the change of enviroment plus hearing the shower so she got paniced and allmost juped out of her cage "tarzanstyle" she dident like that AT ALL!! but now my hole appartment is totally super humid.. all windows and everything is like fog...
