Hi everyone
I have created this account to ask this question. We, my girlfriend and me, have a budgie, a beautiful and happy Lutino. We have had him (I think it's a him, not sure, hard to tell with Lutinos) since he was about 2 weeks old. As such, we have hand-reared him and as a matter of fact, we still are.
The problem is, he is now about 13-14 weeks old. We are providing him with all kinds of vegetables, herbs, seeds and pellets daily and he eats almost anything with gusto. The thing is, he is still asking to be fed right when it's feeding time and he is not eating enough of the variety of food we provide him with to lose interest in being fed. He is otherwise apparently healthy and very very happy, always chattering and playing with us. He is also completely tame to the point of complete confidence, neck scratches and all
Now, my question is, is there a specific trick we could try to encourage weaning? And is it unhealthy for a bird to be on formula for so long? Because if it is not, I am happy to keep feeding him until he's ready to switch
Thank you for reading and any replies!
Cheers

Now, I have read you can slowly decrease the amount of formula you give him and let hunger drive him to eat adult food but I refuse to do that, I don't want to show my bird that it's possible we will not feed him, I don't want him to go hungry and I want him to be convinced we will take care of him no matter what. So, I've been trying the abundance method (the alternative to starvation weaning) but he is still asking for to be fed, though he does eat all sorts of food gladly when offered
