How long does a budgie molt last? How much feather loss is normal? When will the feathers grow back? Is there any extra food/care I should provide my little guy while he is molting? Thank you WinterSoldier

Veggies, egg yolk, Marianne Marlow used to make a nice mash of egg and veg, and making sure they have access to a mineral block. As for how long they last... Munchy's currently been moulting on and off for about 2 months, though I might be remembering that wrong, and I can't remember if that's normal for him. He usually sheds a flurry, grows them back so that they're out of their wax pin in a couple of weeks, sheds a few more, etc.

My new little guy, Sam is going through his first big moult, not ventured out of the cage much in over a week, he's lost a few primary feathers and a few tail feathers, so, can still fly, but loses height, he's been flapping his wings like mad in the cage.
A nice mix of veggies, egg food, either fresh or commercial, oystershell grit, mineral block, and cuttlefish, should see him through it no bother.

I don't know if I can do this for another month! I will do that recipe and see if he likes it!

You have to realise that an indoor bird is going to have different moulting cycles to a wild bird. Moulting is influenced by the seasons, yes, but is also influenced by the current weather, plus if you have artificial heating or cooling this too gives the birds artificial weather changes. We are having a bit of a heat wave at the moment and my birds have gone into a moult even though it is only a month or so since their last one, which was a big one as well.
