These are the two I'm trying to breed currently (Mitch and Club): Jordan: Stacey: Harry: I haven't included Davina as we already know she's not in breeding condition, although she's very playful lately.

You have to take pictures without flash in natural daylight as it is hard to judge the male cere with flash. It will be sharp blue and shiny if the male is in breeding condition. Otherwise it will be dull blue, with a hint of white. I can't judge that by looking at this picture. Anyhow, it appears that your hen is going out of condition.

Here are some without flash: As for my budgies, any of them you think are in season? So I could try them instead if these two aren't. thanks

The white at the top of the cere tells me that your cock is out of condition. Tan color (brownish-yellow) indicated that a hen is in breeding condition. Very dark brown color indicates that she will soon be out of condition. This cock is out of condition as well. The cere of this hen is still crusty so you can try her soon as she won't be in condition for long if she is not provided with breeding setup.

Stacey is past her peak of condition. Mitch & Harry both appear to have fresh shiny ceres which indicates that they are ready to breed. Jordan looks a bit dull but it might be just the photo.
The way the birds act is usually a better indicator than just trying to judge by the look of the cere. Cock birds that are in condition will be very active flying back and forth and paying the hen a lot of attention. A hen that is in condition will be chewing at everything and responding to the cocks attentions
Is Club's foot a genetic condition or is it caused by an injury. If it is genetic I wouldn't use her for breeding

hmm. Lots of conflicting opinions in this thread. I think Club has had her deformed foot since birth. The breeder I got it off has bred with it before.

hmm. Lots of conflicting opinions in this thread. The members can give their opinion only by looking at the pictures. But as Nev said, there are other indicators as well and you are the best judge of your birds.
