Just curious if anyone else has had or seen this.
I recently lost my older male to an accident and then I lost a newer bird I got to illness(it only was with me for a day).He layed down to die because he was so weak when he died.
I recently got a new budgie from a breeder, a budgie thats only a few months old.
I came back in after working outside and noticed immediately that he was laying down ontop of their cage with his eyes sort of closed. Hes up and running around now but I nearly had a heartattack😩

Yes, I've had chicks that led down to sleep. I have a few older birds who also do this at night to go to sleep. I also had a fright as I thought they were ill but they've done it for years now.

Hi and welcome novascel Can totally understand your concern after what happened, but let me assure you that this is perfectly normal! As he is young, he probably hasn't learnt to perch for long periods to go to sleep and in some cases some birds actually prefer to sleep that way! Have known members birds do this when they have a nap in the afternoon at the top of the cage sometimes
