I've noticed that since Kiwis wings have grown out hes become a ton more happy. Sometimes he swoops from his cage down into the rest of my house and flies about. Most of the time he becomes disoriented and flies back to me. then I let him back to familiar surroundings. But after every flight he sings and bobs his head and becomes ridiculously vocal. He jumps up and down and flaps his wings. Am I right to assume that flying makes budgies happy.
Ps I didn't cut kiwis wing. I'd NEVER do that. I bought him with his wings clipped and there wasn't anything I could do about it.

I'd say you were spot on with your assumption. Glad your little guy is enjoying his new wings.
It's a joy to watch them.

I agree wholeheartedly, it is a joy to watch them fly as it is what they are meant to do.

I definitely think flying is part of what they need for their general well-being.

I've had three birds so far that couldn't fly. Two of those lost the power of flight and started to mutilate their feathers afterwards.
The third bird I am not sure that she could ever fly and seemed perfectly happy.

Totally agree! How can I not? Especially when birds where given wings for a reason, I think if I had wings I would be happy flying!!!

That reminds me of a question I wanted to ask. My boy loves flying, but always squawks as he flies. I know he's well and happy, but is that usual?

blue48 It varies from bird to bird. Out of my two, Munchy squawks all the time when he flies and always has but Peri usually flies silently.

Dexter squawks when he flies but then he often flies when he's frustrated about something.
Kiwi must be espcially happy about flying since he hasn't been able to until his feathers grew back.

I so happy that I read this thread! I mentioned the possibility of clipping my birds wings. It’s common here in the USA. A member asked that I not clip them. This thread makes it abundantly clear why NOT to clip. It makes perfect sense. Whew.... close one! Thanks!

@maryann yes its better to leave the budgies as they are normally. Budgies don't thrive if they can't fly
