*Disclaimer I do not clip my budgies wings. When I buy them their wings are clipped*
I recently got a new budgie. Kiwi and the Yet-to-be-named budgie are becoming fast friends and seem to really like each other. Kiwis wings are grown out and I am able to enjoy his fluttering flights around my house. However the little new guy is not so lucky. He flaps in vain and tries to fly with Kiwi. I feel SO SORRY for him. He can't fly or keep up with Kiwi and I Can see its causing him much distress. He tries so hard to fly and it just ends up with him panting and still on the ground. Then he (or I should say it, I am not 100 % sure its a he) just sits on the perch and looks sad. I feel so sorry for him. It is plain to see that there is a psychological impact of clipped wings on birds. So the moral of this whole thing is, if you are planning on getting a budgie and clipping his wings don't. Don't get a budgie. Find another pet like a dog. Budgies need to fly. Otherwise they will become unhappy, and there happiness is necessary.

I think most of us on here are aware of this wing clipping thing, some owners still insist on doing it unfortunately. It has been discussed numerous times.
Anyway, that aside, can you not now limit the time that Kiwi is out flying around just while the new birdie adjusts. His/her wing feathers will grow back, but it will take some time. Kiwi will adapt a little to not having so much free time and he will have friend to chat and play with which will help until that time when they can both have a good fly round.
