How lovely! It's a green woodpecker. I've never seen one. I just had a quick read up on them - they are ground feeders and they eat ants.

I’m lucky to see it then. We’re losing some of that grass outside, too long a story, but it’s council land which we didn’t know. I hope that we still get to see these birds. We have the ring necked parakeets too. Not sure this will come out as the close up

We have quite a few of these out the back of our flats its wonderful to see them and as has been said they feed on ants. We have an apple tree out the back and I think the ants are about more when the apples have fallen to the floor and decompose. So the woodpeckers have a feast for them!

Ooooh had one of these in my apple tree a few weeks back, i must admit i had to look it up. Ive had the great spotted woodpecker many times but not seen this chap in the garden before
