Hy everyone! I have a problem with my 3 year old male budgie. I only own him for 6 month now, they told me this was his age.... He started to be less active in the last 3-4 weeks, he doesn't court his female. He has greenish droppings, first I thought that it was because I gave them some fresh food and he wasn't used to it before. But his situation didn't get better. The last week he started to stand only on one of his legs, and the last 3 days he can't even grab with his toe. Though he flies well, he eats and drinks, the only problem is that he doesn't uses his leg and the droppings. He also lost weight. I examined his leg from closer and I observed that there is some white powder-like crust between his toes, and some tissue grown abnormally and I am confused, could this be scaly leg, as it is not like the symptoms I saw on pictures.Could that be so painful for him? He was treated with ivermectin 6 month ago when I bought him. I read some other topics on this forum and yesterday I treated him again with ivermectin and also cleaned and treated the whole cage and everything with specific solution for Cnemydocoptes. I also read that this could be from low calcium. I have to say that he doesn't like cuttle fish bone, and when I give them fresh food he prefers the seeds...My problem is that I didn't find any Calcivet in our shops here in Romania, and I am curious if I could give him only multiminerals in his water in higher dose eventually... or I could get some calcium for poultry and dilute it more? Is there any chance to save him? I have to mention here, that my female is a young bird, she is only 1 year old, she has no foot or dropping problems. I use natural perches from apple tree.

check the bottom of the foot for any sores, if any treat with an antibiotic ointment. It may be causes by catching it and has pulled something, this should get better over time

Thank you for your advice. I will use an antibiotic ointment and buy at least some multvitamine for him. The last days it got worse and worse... what about the droppings?

The droppings appeared before he got any medication.

Then there may be some other reason like Diarrhoea. Green droppings can be caused by feeding of greens as well and the bird may be healthy. Check the above link to find out the reason.

the droppings may be caused by the stress of the injury

Yes, it could be. He is also a very stressed bird, as he had a dramatic change in his life, I bought him from a breeder, from an aviary and now he lives in a normal home with people in the same room and it is hard for him to get used to it. I couldn't tame him yet... Today I treated his leg again with antibiotic and antiinflamatory ointment and I checked his sensibility, he can feel with his toes but he still doesn't move them and doesn't grab anything.Though it seems to be less painful as yesterday, before treatment. I guess it will be a long recuperation time.... He eats and drinks well, so I think he is not near death...

The low calcium causing leg problems is usually associated with hen who have recently laid a clutch of eggs or raised chicks, as the egg making process requires a lot of calcium from the hen and often leaves her calcium depleted, especially if she wasn't meant to be breeding and hadn't been fed extra calcium. Not a likely cause in your case. Hopefully he is on the mend with a dose of ivermectin and anti-inflammatories. Is there a quiet spot where he is less likely to be stressed in the house? For the time being until his foot is back to normal, it might be worth keeping him as quiet as possible.
