Hello! I'm currently trying to figure out what food to feed my new budgie. I know that the recommendation is often to start with what the breeder/store/etc has been feeding them, but I wasn't quite able to do that, because the little guy just popped up outside my window one day, and I've been taking care of him for about a week now.
There seems to be limited supplies in my area due to the pandemic, so I had to get one of the few options that were actually in the store. I chose Vita Seed by Higgins, but now I'm thinking I should order a different food, and I'm curious to hear everyone's suggestions! The primary reason that I think I should try a different food is that I'm not too sure how much of the seed/pellets he is eating besides the millet. There is a lot of millet in the package and I'm worried that he's not having a balanced diet.
I have been introducing fruits and vegetables into his diet, but he's been slow to try them. However, I'm just trying to introduce a little each day, and I think he'll start becoming more comfortable with trying them.

Hello, a lot of members on the forum use haiths bravo bird seed plus their tonic seed. The website is........haiths.com I am not sure how the ordering is at the moment due to the virus though...but the seed is in my opinion the best.

I use Haith's too. I but the Budgie Bravo, budgie tonic, panicum millet, japanese millet, and cede budgie egg food. Try him with a piece of carrot, cut a piece off and clip it to the cage, most budgie can't resist a piece to eat/shred. www.haiths.com/cage-and-aviary-bird-seed/bird-seed/

Thank you for the suggestion! Unfortunately, I live in the US, and it looks like they don't ship here. Even if they did, it would be very very expensive. Do you have any other suggestions? Or anything that I should specifically look for/avoid?

Sorry, where you live is not included in your profile.
I'm sorry I can't suggest anything as I don't know the budgie products in the USA.
Maybe other members will be able to help.

Hi rosebunting! I feed my two Volkman's (picture attached). It does have millet but also a good mixture of other seeds and dried veggies and fruit. Most good pet stores and bird supply store carry it as well as Amazon. It was recommended by my avian vet. Both Tweetie Pie and Buddy like it and they eat everything in it rather than just pick out the millet.
