So I’ve been trying to put my hand in the cage every hour or so for a few minutes, ideally offering seed or millet so that I’m bringing tasty things. Yuki’s the one who’ll go for the millet but even that is extremely hit and miss. He knows it’s food but doesn’t seem overly excited by it. Indie is stubbornly refusing to eat food I’m offering him today. Anyway, it’s early days so they’re still wary of my hands. They’ll move away when I put my hand into the cage, but then they’ll usually just start chatting to each other, preening or playing with something and completely ignore that my hand is there unless they notice it get too close to them. I have no idea if this is a good thing or not. I mean, it’s good that they’re not just staring at my hand waiting for it to strike, but how much good am I actually doing? Who knows!

I know that so well @sillycat84! My guys will also move away from my hand when I put it in their cage unless I'm holding a treat. My skittish Tweetie Pie even more so than Buddy. If I have seeds in the palm of my hand, Buddy will hop on and eat. Tweetie Pie tries his best to stretch over from a perch to eat and if he can't then he'll hop on. When their cage is open and I hold up some millet, Buddy will fly over to eat. Tweetie Pie comes to the outside perch sitting there and watching Buddy. Occasionally he'll fly to my arm but Buddy chases him away. Help everyone here who's tamed their budgies -what do we do? Is it just a matter of keep doing what we're doing or do something differently?

Yukio got on my hand a couple of times to eat. Eventually got both of them up at once, but Indie was easily disrupted. I would like to know too, tweetiepiesmom . Munchy liked millet, and Peri picked up on it quick and liked it. I don't really know what I can do with one bird who currently likes nothing but regular seed and one who is interested in things but not keen enough on anything to be lured. My little victories were them both on my hand, Yuki on my finger to reach the seed bowl, and Yuki moving to another perch to follow the millet. They both play 'avoid the taxi stick' now. Plus no reward means I can't teach them to stay on it for longer. Indie was hot and bothered today. The weather's sweltering. Not sure he appreciated being misted though. But yes, is there anything else we can do? It's far earlier days for me than TPM but I would like some ideas.

Well, you do know that with two it is harder to make yourself one of the flock. I think it really is a patience game, waiting while they decide that you might be worth knowing. They've obviously decided that you aren't a real threat, and with Indie, being a slightly older bird, is not going to be as easily bribed as Yuki. You must keep in mind that you had Munchy for eight years and his tameness and trust was building and being reinforced in all that time, not just the first couple of months. To go from one so well adapted to two who are wary is bound to be confronting.

Of course, Hezz. And I expect any progress to be slow. It's more knowing if I'm doing the right sorts of things or if there are any bits and pieces of advice or other ideas. Yuki is hard to bribe. If he wants to chat with Indie then I haven't got a hope! They're happy and healthy though, that's the main thing. I enjoy caring for them, watching them and chatting to them. I joined in their afternoon noise-making session. Apparently Indie made a kissing noise the other day. I was out so can't verify.

I think you are doing the right thing by constantly trying with your hand. Many times, though, budgies are more receptive to our faces than hands, lol, that might be a bit hard - putting your face in the cage instead! My Spyro is a bit of a git like that, he certainly isn't scared of me or my hands but will avoid me if he can - too many other much more interesting things to talk to such as door frames, sticks and the odd screw in the gym. Why bother with a human?? Oddly enough it is he who willingly allows me to give his cheek pinnies a fluff when he gets an itchy head. Inside the cage, only. Misty will occasionally come to me for a visit out of the cage but not often have I been able to give him a scratch.

Ha! Well I can fit my head through the door of the cage! Ant says he can do head AND arm. Apparently this is a competition now! Spyro sounds like a character! Those all sound like far more interesting things to interact with. Silly human! Thinking she can compete with a screw!

Exactly! I certainly can't talk that sort of talk (screw talk just comes out plain weird ) But the funniest thing is watching Spyro and Loki do their thing. Flirting with each other and twice-as-big Loki (120gms) inviting Spyro (45gms) to hop onto his back. Honestly!!
