I’ve been reading about feeding birds rice and I came across bulgur wheat which is actually what we eat all the time instead of rice because it’s healthier, but didn’t think of feeding it to my buds, until now, but of course I wanted to make sure first and ask my trusted friends here ❤️🙂 before doing so. some bulgur and lentils (boiled and cooked), with their daily vegetable and seed mix? for a few days every 2 weeks or so, for the extra protein and vitamins/minerals, also for a change of routine, any thoughts? I would greatly appreciate any input 🙂

If they'll eat them lemonora, I'd say they're fine. I tried my boys with Quinoa a few times but never got any takers. See what others say.

I tried cooked quinoa too (read about raw ones containing a natural anti pest coating).. they didn't eat it ever.. so I mashed it and mixed it with their moong bean, egg mash and brown chickpea mash.. tricked them to eat it.. 😅
I have read about brown rice too.. Curious to try it once in a while..

Came here late but just wanted to chime in - mine actually love cooked quinoa. They’re not a fan of just soaked or even sprouted quinoa though. I can’t say why they like it and other buds don’t, but I do know that quinoa in general should be REALLY clean - totally free of saponins, which make quinoa bitter and taste like soap. Also very not good for you - it’s how the seed tries to protect itself from us predators unfortunately almost every brand I’ve ever tried needed extra rinsing out of the packet, if not a total soaking and then extra rinsing. I love quinoa myself, so I kept trying different brands and finally I settled on an organic brand from Costco out here that’s called Kirkland (unfortunately this brand is only available at Costco I believe...) It doesn’t even need to be rinsed, which is frankly amazing to me. I soak it before I cook it anyway though because it’s easy to do, and then it’s not only healthier but it cooks so much faster. But maybe that was just how things were back then and more brands are totally clean now too with better washing technology? I’ve been using this brand for many years now - ever since it showed up on the shelves at my store. Dunno if this helps anyone who wants their buds to eat quinoa. If you rinse the quinoa and it makes any bubbles at all, it’s still got some saponin residue. Maybe the birds are extra sensitive to it? That was my thought process anyway.
