My beautiful bunny Jess left us this morning. I knew it was coming as she has slowed down over the last couple of week. She was 11 in October but she didn't let her age, arthritis or cataracts get in the way of her busy bunny behaviour.
She was very tired yesterday and when I put her to bed last night I had a long goodbye chat with her and fed her a handful of sultanas, her favourite food. I checked on her a few times before I went to bed and she was sleeping comfortably.
When I got up this morning she was still with us but very weak so I brought her inside. I stroked her and told her how wonderful and beautiful she was and how much I loved her. She left a few minutes later and I sat with her and stroked her and cried.
We will bury her this evening, next to her sister Roxy, who left us 2 years ago.
Jess loved having the garden to herself these last 2 years and she was much more relaxed and happy that it all belonged to her. We bonded much more strongly and I would visit her in the garden many times a day but she was happiest foraging for leaves and eating the fallen bird food. But but when I got her in at night I would feed her a handful of grass and dandelion leaves and I'd talk to her and stroke her head and she'd look at me the whole time while she munched her leaves. That was such a lovely moment for me each evening and I will miss that more than anything.
I am going shopping tomorrow for plants to fill the garden. I've not been able to do that when any of my other little friends have died because the rabbits would have eaten the plants as quick as I planted them, but this time I can make my garden into a memorial to all my loves that have left me over the years.
Goodbye my lovely Jess. You were my friend for 10 years and 7 months and I miss you so much xxxxxxx

I’m so sorry to read this. Jess sounded very special. She was comforted by you at the end, which I’m sure comforted her.
RIP Jess

Thank you so much ladybird , ffiscool and blue48 . It really helps having your support and knowing that you understand how special all our animal friends are. We buried Jess this evening, with all her favourite treats and a red rose from the bush that is still flowering. It's going to very strange not letting a rabbit out in the morning. I had to shut the hutch door tonight as it just didn't feel right not to. Here are some pictures of Jess And one with her sister, Roxy, who died December 2018
