I am only a first timer, I guess I didn't do enough research which lead to the passing of a few of my birds.
1. My budgie Layla. I had just got 2 budgies, the female Sky and we couldn't find a name for the other male. The next day, I found out the male was sick and switched it for another bird. We called her Layla. She liked Sky but sometimes they fought. 2 weeks later, I found the cage on the ground with the top popped open. Sky was sitting patiently on the cage but Layla was nowhere to be seen. It could have been a cat or shrew which pushed the cage from the stand and got scared by the crash that it made. I made a missing bird poster but nobody found it and I gave up after a week because here in Malaysia, especially my neighbourhood, there are a lot of cats and also Layla's wings were clipped(which I regret doing). Also, millet doesn't grow in malaysia and there were no fruiting trees at the time. Poor Layla. Fly high darling!
2. Then, I got a new budgie for my lonely Sky, and my brother called him Adam. They loved each other. After 1 month of being fine, I forgot to cover a window during free flight, and he flew into it. He looked okay, flew again and acted normally. After 2 days, he started looking bent over, and Sky constantly flew to him, wanting to play so I separated them. It could have been something else that happened because after flying into that window he had looked fine. That evening, he was face down in his food bowl, I was worried but I didn't know what a dying budgie looked like, so I thought he was just sick and not dying. The next morning, he was on the floor of the cage, Sky looking at him sadly. I buried him under the bush that morning, and put some flowers. Fly high little budgie!
3. I got yet another budgie for my birdie Sky, and my brother called him Pheonix. Weird name for a budgie. he looked sick from the pet shop, and he was sleeping all day and I was busy at the time, couldn't find time to bring him to the vet. After about a week he was sleeping on the floor of the cage, looked very weak and I took him out, he was limp and couldn't even move his head. I brought him inside, sat on a chair and brought him to my chest. He looked at me sadly, as if in pain. In the next few minutes, he took one last look at me and was gone. Poor Pheonix. Fly high little boy!
4. I got another friend for Sky, and called him Biscuit. I had found out at the time that Sky had worms, and couldn't pay attention to him because I was giving Sky everything she needed, time, warmth and coconut water(for deworming). She got a bit better but still weak. I put them together, Biscuit and Sky, they seemed okay. One day, a cat came and knocked down the cage. I was busy at the time. When I came back I knew it was a cat, I found Sky's feathers a meter away from the cage, and of course the cat had got her because she was weak, and Biscuit was fine. Biscuit was sitting in the cage, looking scared. This was the saddest experience for me because I had gone through a lot with Sky, pulled out a blood feather, playing with her, she used to bite my shirt and stood on my head all the time. I put a picture of her in my profile pic. Poor Sky. Fly high Sky, you were loved a lot😘.
Now, I have got a new friend for Biscuit called Bluey and I'm doing a lot of research and learning from my past mistakes. I'm wishing I could have saved them, when they needed me and brought them to the vet. Fly high my darlings! xxxx
