Hey everyone! (UK people anyway) A breeder I know has had a weird circumstance where two budgies hatched from the same egg. She didn't think they would make it but with some supplementary feeding she was surprised to find that they pulled through. Given the unusual cricumstance of their hatching, it's probably not surprising that they're both blind and one of them has a weak leg. She already has a blind budgie so she thought maybe that budgie would enjoy having special needs companions, however as she's also blind she can't see that they're blind and instead very much does NOT appreciate them accidentally stumbling into her. š They're naturally very dependent upon a human to help them so would probably be quite time demanding. The breeder asked if I wouldn't mind asking around if anyone would have the time and space for them, because she knows that I know budgie lovers who provide good homes, but knows that these budgies would likely be a lot of work. So I thought that I might as well put the word out, you never know.

Mid-Wales, but willing to travel to deliver them to a good home.
I'd be willing to give it a go if I had my own place and wasn't out of the house for as long. They'd probwbly learn their cage layout to find food but if not they'd probably be hungry whilst I'm at work. :/

I really hope a good home can be found.

Fingers crossed!
The breeder says she's going to keep trying to see if her older blind budgie will learn to be willing to share, but if not she should be able to set up a space for them in the new aviary that's being built. So she'll keep them if she can't find a good home for them to have a family.
Sadly a lot of the bird people she knows are breeders so their answer of what to do with the babies isn't to her liking when the birds are otherwise doing well.

Good to know she has a back up plan. Iād really like to offer - I have the time - but not the energy unfortunately. š

If I had more time I'd consider taking these two sweeties on. But with 10 budgies and a naughty toddler I just don't think I could devote the care they require.

I do remember Barrie mentioning this occurrence saying that neither budgie had been known to reach maturity in any cases that he was aware of. Something to be considered for any soft-hearted potential takers-on. Fingers crossed that these two break that barrier.

Oh wow! That is remarkable! Once heard that very rarely double yolk chicken eggs will hatch out two live chicks. Usually only one makes it though if that type of egg is incubated.

They're currently 3 months old and have figured out their cage enough to fly from perch to perch now. She's thinking of nicknaming them Roomba and Roamer, because they're small, grey, hoover up all the seeds on the floor, and bump into walls! š
