They sound adorable Ira. If I didn't have a full schedule, I'd love to look after them! They're currently 3 months old and have figured out their cage enough to fly from perch to perch now. She's thinking of nicknaming them Roomba and Roamer, because they're small, grey, hoover up all the seeds on the floor, and bump into walls! 😂

I know! I'm sorely tempted myself, they keep growing on me. If they can find their food then I'd be able to leave them during the day. Think my housemates might notice though. Gee, I really do hope that everything continues to go well for them, they do sound very special. Fingers crossed.

We can but hope. But if it doesn't then I guess that's life. As long as they were happy, loved and cared for during the time they had.

Adorable. Did you say that they were from the same egg Ira I was expecting them to look the same! You'd never know they were blind would you.

Marianne Marlow There are subtle differences, aren't there? I guess two separate sets of cells must have come together around the time the shells were developing? You wouldn't at all. They've been playing with toys today. Apparently they always seem to do things at the same time, like choosing to play. Maybe they're partially sighted rather than totally blind.

Bless - I wonder if the same as humans, if one sense goes the others are heightened

They are the sweetest little things. Wish I had the knowledge and time to be able to take care of them but just don't think I'd be able to.

I getcha. It's difficult to guess how much extra they'd need, too. They seem to be fine in a cage once they know their way around it, so from that point they can find their food and water, but I'm not sure I could take my eyes off them if they were out and about.
I'd be tempted to give it a go, once I could trust them to be okay in the cage during the workday, seeing as I'm at least geographically closer to the breeder should it not work out, but we did promise our housemates that 6 birds was the limit and we're already at that.

🤫 No one's noticed. I thought you had 4 Ira, or have I missed something? Just kidding. There's been nothing to miss. Not yet anyway. I was looking into getting a different species of bird, hence how I've ended up chatting with this breeder, and my housemates agreed to this other bird. All hunky dorey. Currently waiting to see if any of the last 3 eggs of the year hatch from a late clutch. Anyway, then said breeder asked if I had room for one of her young budgies that she'd been unable to sell via the pet shop that usually sells her birds. Said pet shop owner is apparently also a parrot breeder and does home checks and such to ensure birds are going to suitable homes. But said budgie kept going nuts whenever it was at the pet shop so no one wanted to buy it. I debated and debated, because I wasn't looking for another budgie, and didn't know if I would regret saying no but also wasn't sure what my housemates would say. OH said to at least ask them because if they said 'no' then that would end the matter for me anyway. And that's the abbreviated story of bird number 6, due to be brought over of the 28th, more details to follow at that time. Now, housemates have said that they don't mind the flock growing as long as the birds are cared for and we're both okay, but we also know there has to be a limit, and OH did say that 6 would be it when asking one housemate about the new budgie. So I can't really go asking them if I can take on these two as well, especially when they're already being cared for by the breeder even if she doesn't have as much time as she would like. Plus we don't know if the new budgie will move in with our current residents, or if they'll want to stay in the spare cage, or if Munchy will decide he wants that as his batchelor pad, or if we'll need to separate Pippin to try to get his weight down whilst not starving everyone else.
