Thanks, ladybird, for your encouraging comment regarding the taming/training of our Lucky. Also suggesting the Vision cages. We are looking at the Vision 11 model M01, medium sized cage, which is 24" wide. ffiscool, The IMAC cages are sold in the UK, I live in California, but thanks for the suggestion.

Spot the budgie 🤣🤣 This is the vision 11 , just big enough for one budgie. Charlie is out a lot and hopefully Lucky will be able to too eventually. If you do decide on this cage , can I advise you to change the plastic perches.

I've just bought the same cage as yours. When it arrives I'll add toys and perches before transferring Lucky into it. Are mirrors a good idea or not?

I wouldn’t put a mirror in because you want Lucky to bond with you and he might start to obsess with the mirror. Most people put newspaper over the wire grid as it’s not nice for them to walk on the wire…..Have you got a nice cover to put over the cage at night…

I use a small towel.

Actually I don’t think the wire is a problem for them to walk on, they do this all the time on the top of their cages when out and about. Paper over the grate just makes cleaning up after them so much easier as you can simply take up the soiled sheet and lay down a new one, or better still put in a week’s worth on cleaning day and lift the top sheet off each day - too easy.

It seems obvious that budgies don't like loud noises, but how badly does it affect them, for example, the sound of a vacuum cleaner?

Max loves the hoover, but hates it if I sneeze or cough. I’m Dreading fireworks, but will have tv etc on louder

My boys don't mind the noise of the hoover. It just makes them sing louder. They are sometimes a bit wary of the pipes though if it's a bit close to the cage.

Thanks for the replies. I have to vacuum the floor below Lucky's cage often to remove fallen seeds.

My budgies have all been more scared of a broom than they have been of a vacuum cleaner. Noise tells them it is safe, no danger around. When predators are lurking, the bush goes quiet; once the threat has passed all the critters resume their noise-making.

That's an interesting theory, I'll have to remember that. So far, I've been tiptoeing up to Lucky's cage so as not to startle her, when, in fact, she sees me as a predator!

On average, what's a good time to put a budgie to bed?

My two boys are in bed between 8pm/8.30pm depending on them settling.
I remove the cover around 7.30am.

An hour or so after dark, when they have had time to have an evening feed. Try to follow the seasons as much as possible.
