So the triangle has become more of a square. Louie has joined in with the constant adoration of Ivo. As yet Henry is just watching proceedings and hasn’t joined in but I can’t help but wonder what on earth is going on. Poor Ivo isn’t getting any peace and I’m starting to think there might have to be a bit of musical cages going on, perhaps pairing one with Jasper as it has become quite intense in the Hamberley. I took some more photos of Ivo to ask for opinions again on gender. I can’t help but continue to wonder if this obsession is because they’ve all become aware Ivo is a hen. I do not have anything at all round or enclosed where nesting or mating could be encouraged and they get a minimum of 12 hours darkness at the moment, usually a bit more. I know Ivo is pied and that makes sexing all the more difficult. For those in the know and who can identify mating advances rather than over zealous friendliness and jealousy, I recorded a couple of videos today. Is it possessiveness or something more? This behaviour is the same in and out the cage. Finally, this last video shows just what I was hoping to avoid. Advice gratefully received, thank you!

I'd like a closer up photo of Ivo, but from those photos it looks like a boy's cere to me.
I never had the issue of fighting over Yuki, per se, but Indie used to chase Munchy and Pippin away from Yuki.
You may have to separate Ivo or remove one of his competitive suitors, if things carry on.

Ivo is the most chilled out little bird, so if I was going to remove one, I’d probably try Ivo in with Jasper and hope Jasper accepts sharing. For the moment I’m keeping a close eye on their behaviour.

I wouldn’t change my thinking of Ivo’s gender based on that photo. The little yellow face seems to be the trouble maker; he’s the one I would be removing first. The males can get jealous of their best mate’s attention going somewhere else. When Mango first joined my flock I had just Sparky and Misty, who were best mates. Mango played her hand (wing??) at Sparky but he just wanted to hang with his mate, Misty. Misty, on the other hand, was quite ready to step up to the bar when it was obvious to all the Sparky wasn’t to be swayed. Poor Sparky stayed loyal to the end, even trying to win Misty’s attention at times which did lead to the occasional fisty-cuffs between them. It never really came to anything because Sparky was too much a gentleman.

Yes, that’s Luca. Every day changes between these guys. One day it could be Otis by Ivo’s side and the next Luca. Yesterday it was Luca. Today, potentially not. Originally it was just the pair of them and Ivo was quite happy with whoever was there with him but now, with Louie getting involved, poor Ivo seems to be surrounded by the three of them. My first thought was to remove Luca but now Louie is getting in on the action, I’m not sure if Ivo will get much more peace…

Gosh, that is a complicated situation. There really must be something special about Ivo. Sorry I can't offer any advice but I do hope they settle down, even if you have to separate some of them.
When Randolph Carter was still with us he was the centre of the group and both Dexter and Dean Stockwell spent time with him, but rarely with each other. There were some scuffles between DS and Dexter but I think they were more about DS's bell rather than Randolph Carter as the scuffles stopped once I moved the bell to the outside of the cage. Dexter and DS have got to know each other now they are on their own and spend time chatting and sharing dill.

Well, I decided to take Luca out, much to his disgust. He is now sharing with Jasper in the vision and so far, she hasn’t killed him yet. She has certainly laid down the ground rules but apart from the odd bit of beak-bashing, she has just about ignored him for the majority of the day and carried on as she normally would. I’m hoping this might break his undying love for Ivo. We shall see… In the Hamberley, tranquility has resumed. Ivo is so good and well-behaved. We’ve had a little cuddle and head stroke today; he’s such a lovely sweet bird. He wasn’t constantly surrounded by admirers all day long once Luca was removed and has been his usual social self but not been pestered. Louie seems to have relaxed and gone back to chatting with Henry. Luca has called out to them a lot and spent some time on the bars watching the Hamberley and calling to Ivo. I expected that though and hope it will lessen over the weekend and maybe he’ll start to bond with Jasper, if she’ll allow it. But that is just this afternoon’s events. I suspect tomorrow could be a different story. Luca has now settled himself on the swing to roost and Jasper is in her usual sleeping space. All is quiet and peaceful…
