Hello,
Last night one of my Budgies passed away, it was a shock and happened very quickly (stroke) We are completely devastated. We also have their sibling who hasn’t moved from the spot where He was when it all happened. Does anyone have any advice on how to help a remaining Budgie after loosing his buddy, we know it’s going to be very hard as the Budgie we’ve lost was the dominant one who was the very loud and excitable one. Any advice will be very much appreciated.

I found myself in the exact same situation 2 years ago, my 2 boys were Brother's with only a day between them.
I found my little fella struggled without his little brother, I spent extra time interacting with him, but I was no substitute.
After about 3 weeks I ended up getting him another budgie friend, the same bond isn't there, but they get along ok.
Give your bird time to grieve and see if he adapts, give him lots of love and attention.
I'm so sorry about your other bird.

When I got my first two budgies, Monty and Eric back in 2009, I was int he same position.
Eric passed, he was not the dominant one, but Monty doted on him.
I went out and brought home another two budgies (an exhibition breeder was giving them away as they were not big enough to be show stock), Monty was back to his old self immediately.

I agree with everything jellybean has said.
I'm so sorry for your loss.

Im so sorry for your loss. I think you need to see how it goes, as above. Are you home so able to spend more time with him? If not, then I think a friend is the way to go. You’d need to quarantine any new bud, for a month, so as to ensure no illnesses if any, could be spread.

Hello, Thank you for your replies, we’ve been spending a lot of time with our remaining birdie, there’s always someone with him, my Daughter doesn’t doesn’t want to get another Budgie but it’s still early days and we’re still heartbroken. He’s been really chirpy which I’m pleased about but he looks so lost without her and I feel so sad because I know he’s wondering where she is, I’d like to think we could get another buddy for him but only time will tell on that….. thank you for your replies and your kind words, they’re appreciated right now♥️

I’m glad he’s chirping, and he will seem a bit lost at the beginning. I hope with the extra attention he will be ok. It’s hard for us, most animals get on with it, quicker than we do.
Good luck and if you get another or not, let us know, how it’s all going

It is only others who own and love these little bird that know how you feel. Keep doing what your doing, and as ffiscool said, please keep in touch and let us know how he's getting on.

Hello again and Thank You so much to everyone who replied to my post💜 It has been so hard since our little one passed away, it will be 8 weeks tonight since she left us and we miss her so so much💔 I do have some news, the Saturday before Christmas we got another little Budgie, didn’t think I would because I did feel like I was replacing her but he was so so quiet and I was scared he’d pine away. It was a bit of a split second decision as my Daughter had been to buy seed etc and came back telling me about the Baby Budgies she’d been looking at so we both went back to ask advice about getting a baby after losing one.. I had been debating though, since reading your advice. So, we now have a new baby and Jin-jin seems MUCH happier and they’ve even sat together quite a few times! It’s early days but I think I’ve made the right decision💜 💜💜💜
