This is my bird Melody, she is a very moody and picky girl. She is afraid of everything and doesn't like any of the toys I try to introduce her to. When we first got her a few months ago, she responded better when we took the top of the cage off. The cage is a weird house that had a triangular top that made her more anxious. I'm trying to get her content in her space because lately she's been refusing to eat or even try to play with new ladder toys I got. Any input would be greatly appreciate along with new cage types.

Rectangular cages are the best shape for budgie cages, and wide rather than tall. These cages shouldn’t be made let alone sold, they aren’t even any good for a canary or finch, so no wonder she wasn’t happy.
Once you get her a decent cage, give her a bit of time to settle into it before adding lots of different toys. You can’t make a bird play or accept new toys in their cage; they either will or they won’t, it’s their decision. Some birds, and I think especially the hens, just aren’t given to such frivolities. I’d use that which you have there as a stand away from her cage as another place for her to perch safely in the room.

Maybe choose a cage with horizontal bars so she can climb around too. Like Hezz says you can’t make them like toys. My budgie has a particular toy he loves and ignores the rest pretty much, but he loves to climb all around his cage and hang from the top. Raffia strips are good for them to play with.

I will add that she will like several perches made from natural tree limbs. You can purchase those or make them yourself. If making them, look online for trees which are budgie safe. She'll most likely love chewing on the barking and hopping from one to another. Enjoy your little girl!

I think she'll feel safer too because we have a train run by our place that scares her to death so she flies around.
