Sorry for the late reply. He's still fighting. The vet sent him home after an overnight with antibiotic and metacam. I've had a hard time trying to get him to take the medicine as he's so small and absolutely nothing of him and wriggling and fighting. I thought he showed signs of improvement yesterday but today the horrible breathing noise has come back. He sits puffed up a lot. I've just have him a nebulizer with some f10 antiseptic hoping it helps. I don't know what else to do. The vet cost an absolute fortune and I don't feel he's any better for it

I hope the vet can help Pippin. I know the noise you mean. Blueboy made that noise when he was really ill, he ended up having an iodine deficiency. Unfortunately it was diagnosed too late as the first vet I went to believed it was something else. This is why I now put iodine in their water once or twice a week. Fingers and toes crossed it's something that can be cured. Hugs xx Marianne I've got BSP vitamin drops which is the same colour as iodine and stains like it too. Would that be the same? Or do you use a specific iodine? He stopped the noise yesterday and I felt positive but now it's back again

You can, or should be able to, buy iodine tincture, 25mg/ml at your pharmacy.

lemonade, it's worth a shot, if Pippin has already been to the vet and is no better. Plus it cannot make him worse.

Just to add. He's a bit more settled this morning so I'm hoping the nebuliser has helped him. I'll do that again today for him.
I've wheeled them out their little room which is at the back of the house and near the back door. I think it's too cold for him now in there especially with cold air coming through the door and being against an outer wall. I've dug out the old Hagen vision smaller cage from the attic and washed it all out and think I'll temporarily use that while it's cold weather as I can have that in other parts of the house. Its not ideal as it's smaller (their current cage is a massive rainforest 6ft high one and can't really fit anywhere else apart from the room it's in just now) but they spend their days outside on top anyway so won't be cooped up

I would definitely give the iodine a try; as Marianne says it’s worth a try if he isn’t any better and can’t hurt him in the short term. If it is an iodine deficiency, you should see some improvement within the week.
The recommended dosage for the concentration I gave is three drops into 100 mls of water. You can give this for a week but if no improvement but you still wanted to add some iodine to his water, drop it back to one drop and only once or twice a week rather than every day.

I got this delivered today. Does anyone know how many drops per ml of water for the 12% strength?
