Throughout my single year of owning my parakeets, I have only been able to introduce them to maybe two or three foods (besides seed and millet). I tried to figure out the source of this neglect, only to discover it may be because I am not sure how I am supposed to store the food. I have been storing a very small amount of chopped up lettuce, apples, and a third fruit or vegetable (whatever we have laying around, as long as it's budgie-safe) in a small container with a lid that pops off, and usually these stores seem to age after three or four days after refill (I don't know if it is such a thing, I have never been a food expert). What is the expected method of keeping food for them? Or am I supposed to cut a fresh food every day?

I would say fresh every day if you possibly can is the best .

Fresh foods will keep in the refrigerator for 3-4 days as you've discovered. Some people make up a batch of chopped veggies with corn, peppers, etc and freeze it in daily size portions (ice cube trays work well) and then take out what they need each day. One thing my two guys like is fresh spinach and I give them a fresh leaf almost everyday. You can do that with any fresh leafy green. Just make sure you remove all perishable food like the chop every day. Most people remove it after about 4 hours.

I should make a chop mix, but at the moment, Max has spinach most days, corn and a small bit of red apple. A few times a week he gets broccoli and scrambled egg, when moulting
