I’ve been trying to find organic food for our buds, and managed to get them this organic split dry peas, is it good for them? I will boil and cook it of-course, but i just wanted to make sure before I feed it to them, I read some place that some beans are toxic to birds I would appreciate your input 🙂

Think I'd sprout them rather than cook, see what others think first.

Think I'd sprout them rather than cook, see what others think first. Nice idea I’ve been very scared of trying to sprout anything because of what I read about it going bad easily

I haven't fed my guys cooked peas so I'm not sure if they'd like them. Maybe mona or Morgan might know. I do feed my guys sprouts everyday and I've included sprouted peas. Don't be afraid to try sprouting. You'll be fine as long as you follow a couple "rule of thumb" things. I only sprout organic beans/seeds because I think they are cleaner. When you do the first soak, add a bit of ACV or grapefruit seed extract to kill any mold spores. Rinse thoroughly after the soak. Every time you rinse (2-3x a day), make sure you shake off the excess water. Don't try to soak too many at a time. They need both moisture and air to sprout. Also trying to sprout too much will encourage mold growth because they'll most likely stay too damp with no air in the center. I only sprout 2 TBL at a time. My guys love their sprouts but it did take some time before they tried them. Once you get the hang of it, you'll find it easy to incorporate sprouting into your daily routine. Mine sprout to a good growth in 3 days. I store them in the frig and 2 TBL sprouted feeds my guys for about 4 days. Good luck!

Thanks tweetiepiesmom 🙂 I will definitely give it a try👍 u made it sound doable thanks again i just have a few questions if you don’t mind, just to make sure that I understood correctly 🙂❤️ -so, there is only one first soak? Then just rinsing a couple of times a day? -should I add the ACV only in the initial soak? Or every time I rinse as-well? -if it went bad, is it obvious and clear? Or could I poison them without knowing? -what other things can I sprout? So I can look for organic ones I really appreciate your help and care tweetiepiesmom ❤️ my birds and I thank you🐥🙂

To get quick lessons on sprouting, go to YouTube and search on "how to sprout seeds and beans". Look at a couple of the videos posted. Sprouting varies just a little based upon what you're using to sprout.
You'll soak the seeds/beans for 12 hours initially. Put the ACV or GSE in the water for the initial soak. Many people will do the final rinse with ACV water just before putting them in the frig. I don't and I haven't had problems with mold.
Most of the time you'll see the white slimy mold on the sprouts. Sniff them - they should smell fresh and green. If they feel really slimy or smell off, they're probably bad. My guys have good eating instincts and won't eat anything bad. If they've been eating sprouts and won't eat the new batch, assume they're bad. You can always taste a batch that you sprout to see if you think they're good. Most of the time you'll see the milky white mold.
You can sprout their bird seed (rinse, rinse, rinse that) if it doesn't have pellets mixed with it or a vitamin treatment. Oat, wheat, millet, mung beans, peas, buckwheat, and lentils can all be sprouted.
I always buy organic because I know they're not treated and have no pesticide exposure. Sure they are more expensive but what a little budgie will eat isn't going to break my budget.

Thank you thank you thank you soooo much tweetiepiesmom ❤️❤️❤️❤️ the information you gave me is so valuable and I will follow your instructions 👍 I will also watch YouTube videos as you suggested, and will definitely look for organic seeds/beans to sprout, I’m also so relieved that the mold is clear and obvious, that I can see and smell it easily, also will definitely taste it before giving it to them, and of course as you said, they wouldn’t eat it if it’s bad. thank you again for all your effort and care I really appreciate your help ❤️❤️❤️❤️
