Today i noticed our female bird had this flake looking cracked beak.... It looks like a loose flake.
Will it ever be fine again or grow out or heal ? It dosent bleed and she dosent look like she is in pain and she still eats. She bites in everything but i dont know when this happend today or could be yesterday... It looks worse on the one side then the other.
Im just worried and im the one in pain over this.

If it is not bothering her, you should be able to relax as well. She has probably bumped it somehow, and if that piece doesn’t fall off it will grow out with time.

Its just strange that last day it wasent like this and no trace of mites on her feets or beak. So she could have bumpped it. She is a bit clumsy at times. But i will keep observate it.
Thanks for ur comment on this.

It looks better today since that big flake must have fallen off There is still something remaining. Is it beak mites ? I have been looking up mites on budgies on google and it dosent look like this. But so sad to see these images of other birds with mites

It definitely isn’t scaly mites. It is possible that it was something stuck to her beak, possibly even something as simple as a seed husk.

I was wondering if she had any sweetcorn recently?

Beaks are made up of Keratin, like our finger nails , so can flake a bit . So maybe this is what is happening here…..

Not sure of it was a giant seed husk. But she still have this small fracture on the one side of her beak. I have been looking at it since sunday and it dont seems to gets worse. And i dont think its mites either. No she dosent eat sweetcorn or any fruits at all. Just minced carrot sometimes. I hope this small fracture will heal fine again. postimg.cc/fVJJHPGmYou can see the fractured beak here on the last picture with her on my finger at the mirror. She does preen her self alot these days and loose some feathers but we give her seeds that helps birds in molting periods. I also change her water and seed bowl each morning and refill it. We have some vitamin fluid we put in her water. My mother is on vacation this week. So im on the look out for our bird.

It doesn’t look like a break to me, but more like a flaky area, which is perfectly normal.
