Omg, loved those sweets. I also had either 3p or 6p - old money - for sweets. I loved the gobstoppers, sherbet dabs, flying saucers. There were Tom Thumb drops. Hated aniseed. But loved cola cubes, pineapple cubes. No wonder my teeth aren’t great
Never heard of the potato things…. And def sugar on my porridge.
Oh pez, did you have them. With the oblong sweets that you’d pop up in like a face top

Interesting reading this thread! Of course, we didn't have the same candy treats that you had when I was young - or maybe some of them were called by different names here? Alot of the candies I grew up with are either no longer available or can only be purchased online, and very expensive. Many of those candies were sweetened with high fructose corn syrup which we now know is bad for you.
One of my favorites was Mary Janes, a rectangular shaped cross between caramel and taffy with a glob of peanut butter in the center.
In the US we don't have "porridge" but have "oatmeal", very popular in the winter. Salt on oatmeal - ewwww! Cook up the oats in water, add milk or cream with sugar, sometimes fruit such as blueberries - yum. Maple syrup instead of sugar is also delicious.

ffiscool we had many versions of the Pez. It was fun to pop out the candy to eat. We also had the candy necklaces and bracelets which I always thought were a bit gross and never a fan of them.

Chocolate mice anyone? When I was little I fed some to my nans dog (black lab called ben). Thankfully he wasn't ill from it. As a 5 year old I had no idea chocolate was poisonous to dogs. Found a photo of ben. Loved that dog.

Amazing isn't it Marianne Marlow the things we didn't have as children but wanted so much because all the others had it. I never had a Barbie doll but had the knock-off. (Do I hear violins. ) At the time I was so disappointed so when I was in my twenties and working, I bought myself a real Barbie. Silly, yes!

jellybean, OK I'll say it - you didn't miss much. You pushed the lever on the head and the mouth opened and dispensed a candy. They broke and kids would beg their parents for more. Some kids had several Pez characters. They're really not a good idea - a toy that dispenses candy!
