Good Lord, so glad there weren't any birds in the aviary or anyone in the shed at the time.
Will you have to get someone in to clear the fallen tree and mess away?

Gosh that is scary! Glad everything and everyone is ok. We have had a tree come down today as well. Landed on nothing though!

Oh no! A close call indeed Hezz. I’m glad no birds were in the aviary but even so it’s a scare and a pain to clear up and rebuild the shed. Was it down to high winds?

It is (was?) a rain forest tree, notoriously shallow-rooted, and we’ve had a fair amount of rain. There is always a degree of attrition at the beginning of every wet season, just not normally in our yard. The old garden shed was going to be demolished anyway, so no real loss there although there are some bits and pieces still in it. I had recently taken the aviary dividers out of it and put them up in the aviary to separate the two sections, so that was fortuitous. Vines have helped hold some of the tree up off the aviary, but also caused a couple of smaller trees to come down with it. I think we will have to get the professionals in to remove it in order to keep from flattening the aviary. . If it wasn’t for that we probably wouldn’t be too concerned about it as it is on the edge of our property. Actually, since it is not our tree but council’s, they should pay for it. I’ll have to look into that …

Thankfully no real harm done then Hezz. Do you ever have birds in the aviary overnight? Good that you didn't that night anyway.

I do, Shirls, if I have “visitors” or if we go away and my son looks after them for me. They get room to fly around and all he needs to do are the usual food and water. I’d hate for them to be in their cages all the time if we are out of town.

Gosh. Glad the aviary is intact and that it was empty at the time. I hope you get some luck with the council paying to take their tree away.

I was so lucky with the aviary. I’ve had another look around and one of the smaller trees pulled down with the vines is only about six inches off the top back corner. . Trying to get someone to come and move it asap because we are supposed to be having a week away in a couple of weeks.
